VIDEO: Nero pimping 16-bit nostalgia instead of just Dr. Dre headphones

Perhaps you’ve seen that commercial for Beats music gear? Well, hopefully not so much that the following will be ruined for you.

It was Super Punch who pointed out that the following tune is somewhat famous, for being in an ad for Dr. Dre’s line of headphones that are sold at Best Buy. I honestly haven’t paid attention to what Dre has looked like, since The Chronic almost 20 years ago. Is he on steroids or something? The dude is HUGE.

Anyway, that same song has an official video, and it references old school gaming, which is a thing these days I realize, but in this case, it’s done exceptionally well…

Most folks love doing stuff in 8-bit, as noted just yesterday, but 16-bits is where it’s at! In fact, one has to wonder why the dude from the previous link just didn’t go the SNES/Genesis route and save himself a ton of headaches. Oh, I get it; 16-bits isn’t completely in style yet.

Anyhow, if you’re going to tap into the 16-bit past, then what better system to draw from than the Genesis! The Streets of Rage homage is nice, but it’s the racing segment which truly won me over. Sorry, but OutRun-stylized scrolling terrain >>>>>>>>>> Mode 7 nonsense anyday.

What'd you think of this?
