VIDEO: One of the biggest games of the year is finally (and officially) here

Matt Hawkins Contributing Writer, Video Games

I’m talking about Battlefield 3 of course. Tomorrow’s the big day, and here’s plenty of footage to either wet your appetite, or to simply prepare yourself for the big fight ahead.

It’s been a long time coming, which was recently highlighted by a beta that has had it’s fair share of lols, but the final product is here and ready to shine! Hopefully. Anyway, first thing’s first: the official launch trailer…

… After seeing so much multiplayer footage, I had almost forgotten that there’s a single player campaign! Though as impressive as the footage above might be, it’s still somewhat light in the one thing I like the most. Explosions. Hence this not quite old clip…

Next we have… count ‘em, THREE different ways on how best to play the game! The first comes a fairly straightforward and through breakdown of all the new things, based upon the beta. It’s assuming that much of the following, if not allow, will be carried over into the final game (though expect slight differences, here and here)…

The next simply illustrates one single thing, but man, not only is it the best way but the most awesomest of ways. Behold the “Jihad Jeep”…

Third up is perhaps the preferred method of playing, which unfortunately is out of most everyone’s grasp. But hey, the rate at which home entertainment is evolving, it might not be too far down the road…

There’s a very good chance that something close to the above will be available in Battlefield 4. Which btw, is coming out in 2017. Maybe…

BTW, the video above was created in conjunction with some brand new reality show on the internet show called The Controller. The premise is actually quite compelling; to win the $50,000 prize, a professional gamer has form a team with a total “noob” and install all his or her knowledge (the expert is not allowed to touch the controller). The first episode is based upon, you guessed it, Battlefield 3. I’ll have more to say about the show as the season progresses…

Finally, a head’s up for Xbox 360 owners; you’ll have the option to install an “HD Texture Pack”, which is an absolute must (provided you have a hard drive, and to be honest, not having one in the first place is just nuts). Otherwise your gaming experience will be less than optimal, at least visually speaking. Here’s a comparison of what it looks like before and after…

… It was claimed that without the pack installed, the game would look SD quality, which honestly is an insult to all of us clinging on to yesteryear’s tech. Sure my games don’t look at hot, but they don’t look THAT bad.

What'd you think of this?
