VIDEO: Rage is making id fanboys happy, but PC users? Not so much
The latest from the creators of Doom and Fallout 3 has been a source of much celebration and consternation since it’s release. Though more the latter than the former it would seem.
First off, if you’ve been playing id games since back in the day, you’ll certainly get a kick out of the hidden rooms that pay tribute to assorted id Software classics. Thus far we know about one for Wolfenstein 3D…
… A real Alice in Wonderland, behind the looking glass moment to say the least. And here’s another, for all those Quake 1 diehards…
… One would have to assume that another for Doom is somewhere, ready to be discovered. Unfortunately, for a title with such a PC pedigree, and especially after hearing how Xbox 360 and PS3 users would be dealing with assorted technical and logistical headaches, it would seem that they’re getting the last laugh after-all…
… What you’re seeing are issues with the graphics drivers, which are totally fixable if you have the latest one for whatever graphics cards you’re using. Though, why no one was told about this beforehand, before the game’s release to exact, remains a mystery.
It’s not quite as bad as what Battlefield 3 players are going through, but at least that release has the excuse of being a beta. For something retail though, it is rather baffling.
Furthermore, many are crying foul over “evidence” that this game was specifically designed mostly for console gamers in mind (which is true) and PC users are simply getting together a poorly, haphazardly slapped together port (okay, that’s stretching things).
Thus we have stuff like the following, all over Reddit…
… That’s John Carmack, the man who runs id and has done quite a bit for the PC gaming industry, btw. And is now public enemy number one in some people’s eyes. But you know, gamers, they love to exaggerate.
