VIDEO: Reason #976 why Nintendo is doomed

Matt Hawkins Contributing Writer, Video Games

The once mighty giant is on the ropes and needs to make a comeback, bad. Especially this holiday season; with the iPhone 4S to content with already, and PlayStation Vita on the horizon, Nintendo needs to do everything possible to demonstrate how serious the 3DS is. Too bad the following says they’re anything but.

I’m actually working on a larger piece, to be run later this month, about the things that Nintendo needs to do to turn the ship around, ASAP, otherwise they might be seriously screwed. Could have waited till then to post the following, though it’s so bad that it deserves special mention. Courtesy of Tiny Cartridge

It’s actually heinous on a historic level. How the above was ever approved is beyond me. When the console flops… and now more than ever, it’s looking like a REAL possibility… the above will be forever referred to as exhibit H.

I also can’t stand many American video game commercials these days for one sole reason: they just don’t show what’s being sold. It’s like the advertisers are embarrassed or something. Though the above is the best/worst example of this. Want to see a really good commercial instead? Here’s one from Nintendo as well, but from Japan…

See? It’s just gameplay footag, straight up. That’s it. Folks who know what they’re looking at are no doubt salivating, and those who don’t will do the research. No need to preach to an audience that won’t understand or don’t care. Its like Nintendo of America is embarrassed of what they’re selling, and the thing is, they don’t have to be! The 3DS is failing and they have no one else to blame but themselves.

Nintendo seriously needs to watch a few commercials from the competition. Not Sony; their ads are just as bad, and they’re also getting their asses handed to them by… you guessed it… Apple. In particular, they need to watch the iPod Touch ads. Where it just nothing but game footage. Nothing but.

What'd you think of this?
