VIDEO: Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition comes home
Just announced is the upgrade that many consoles SF4 players have been waiting for.
Many were afraid that Capcom was going to release yet another, third stand-alone console offering of Street Fighter 4 to include the arcade version’s four new faces. Which would have sucked cuz I too was not thrilled with having to shell out another $50 or so bucks for Super Street Fighter 4 after nabbing regular Street Fighter 4 at regular price not too long afterwards (with the second update not offering all that much either). Guess the powers that be didn’t want to completely disenfranchise their fan base. Though $20 says that there will indeed be a boxed version of SS4: AE eventually, with all the characters and goofy alternate costumes included that Capcom also likes to nickel and dime folks over.
Anyhow, included in the much appreciated (?) DLC are again, four new characters, which to be honest, are only really two. You’ve got Yun and Yang, the twins from Street Fighter 3, who are fairly similar but not quite, much like how Ryu and Ken are kinda the same but technically not. Speaking of which, there’s also Evil Ryu… which is funny, because when you get down to it, Akuma has always unofficially been the twisted take on the Ryu-esque character type. Which makes the inclusion of the fourth and final addition, Oni, yet another not so nice guy who also shoots fireballs and does uppercuts as well, seem a tad bit redundant.
But yeah, I’m not a diehard Street Fighter fan, hence why I’m not nearly as excited as those who are. Please even I realize that each seemingly identical character will have significant nuances, plus the returning cast is getting tweaks and new moves. Additionally, online play has been enhanced, to make the experience of fighting random strangers online more akin to playing against random strangers at a Japanese arcade. Though I have yet to hear details of a smoke machine being included (when I went arcade hoping in Tokyo a few years back, I quickly realized that pretty much half of all their arcade rats smoked like chimneys).
No word on exact date of release or final asking price, though in the case of the latter, best guess is around the $15 mark.
