VIDEO: The greatest tribute to the NES ever, starring one of its most mediocre stars

Hey, remember Abobo, the muscle-headed freak from Double Dragon? Though I fully realize that some out there might not even remember Double Dragon to being with. Regardless, he’s the star of a brand new game that celebrates the NES’s illustrious past, in a brawl for all mash-up.

The premise is simple: one of 8-bit gaming’s faces in the crowd is out for revenge (cuz his equally ugly as sin offspring has been kidnapped) and has to go through wave after wave of familiar enemies and classic environments based upon past games to get Abobo Jr back…

Ghouls’n Ghosts zombies roaming around the Contra landscape? Shy Guys and Dig Dug, hanging out in a Legend of Zelda dungeon? A random The Last Starfighter reference? There have been plenty of games that try the whole remixing thing, but this one takes it to a new level.

For a closer look, here’s a clip from Tiny Cartridge. Truth be told, it’s a bit boring, since the dudes playing are not the best at Contra (hey, the game is hard), so just fast forward to the five minute mark for something completely amazing…
