VIDEO: The greatest WTF game ever left unreleased has finally been set free

This past April 1st, what appeared to be yet another hoax was anything but, as Bio Force Ape was finally released to the public.

For those not in the known, hardcore gamers and collector types all have a fondness for unreleased games. The weirder and the more obscure, the better. Without a doubt, the holiest of holy grails has been Bio Force Ape, a game for the NES that was suppose to come out in 1991-92, but simply vanished without a trace. Many years later, in 2005, the game was brought back into the consciousness of gamers everywhere (well, those who frequent video game message boards at least) when someone, as a joke, claimed to have a copy of the game and passed along fairly bizarre, yet “convincing” screenshots, like this one…

I guess it’s worth mentioning real quick what the game is all about: you’re a chimpanzee whose human family/owners get kidnapped by evil whatnots and after ingesting some super-powered goo, you’re a muscle-bound bad-ass out for revenge. Oh, btw, you’re also a wrestling fanatic, hence why you beat bad guys up with German suplexes.

Anyhow, the aforementioned owner of the game demanded $2,000 to fork it over to the rest of the world, and when the inevitable bitching on the internet got too hot and heavy, dude so angry and smashed the cart to bits. Which all turned out to be a huge joke, naturally. So when the real deal popped up, many were skeptical. But various folks pooled their money (with the final asking price being a little over 2K) and crossed their fingers; in the end, it was very much real and very much weirder than expected.

If the clip got you all excited to give the game a go yourself, you finally can; the ROM has been released on the internet and works in pretty much any NES emulator under the silicon sun. Sorry, even though it’s ancient, still not gonna pass along a direct link (but it’s out there, trust me).
