VIDEO: The Gunstacker, as the title implies, has you stacking guns
It’s part of Serious Sam Double D, the first of a series of Serious Sam inspired indie games. Also, yet another reason why Dukem Nukem has always sucked.
First off, watch this, cuz it’s awesome…
So here’s the deal: Serious Sam was a first person shooter that got its cues from Duke Nukem, right down to some jar heard with sunglasses blasting away aliens. But on virtually ever level, the game was just… better.
As the mythos of Duke Nukem Forever began building steam, those with taste cared only about the next Serious Sam. Thankfully it wasn’t some wild goose chase; unlike Duke’s people, who were all talk but no show, Sam’s people were able to actually ship games over the years. None have been blockbuster hits or the such, but they’ve all been solid regardless, and good old-fashioned fun nonetheless.
Anyhow, as DNF began to actually materialize, powered by a hype machine that was sure to disappoint, Serious Sam’s developers again exercised much wisdom for their long awaited follow-up. By enlisting a bunch of indie game developers to craft bite-sized stand alone titles that play up their lead’s strengths, but in different ways.
If only the folks at Gearbox had as much awareness, perhaps their final product wouldn’t have been such a stinker (anyone whose played the game can tell you that they’re completely ignorant of far gaming has advances over the past ten years). Serious Sam 3 is due in October. But before that is the indie build up, three in total, with Double D being the first. It makes its world premier at PAX Prime later this weekend.
