VIDEO: Think getting the highest score is tough? What about the lowest?

Matt Hawkins Contributing Writer, Video Games

The goal for any video game is get the largest point tally, obviously. But the real challenge is to get the lowest, by far. Think I’m nuts? You’ll see.

Let’s take Super Mario World for example, game in which pretty much everything you do gets you points. And it’s not even annoying about it like today’s games, in which achievements and the like have run amok, to further massage the frail egos of today’s gamers. As you’ll see, it’s true test of patience, cunning, and machine-like precision…

… Again, I wish I knew Japanese to understand all the notes that come up in the vid. I’m also confused as to why swallowing Koopa Troopas and then spitting them out as fireballs doesn’t warrant points, you have killed them after-all. Let alone Bowser himself. But anyhow…

Here’s another, this time featuring the original Super Mario Bros…

… It’s been said that the creator of the game himself, Shigeru Miyamoto, has been quoted as saying that those who want a real challenge should try their best to not collect any coins. Something that the 3:11 mark illustrates brilliantly.
