VIDEO: Tommy Wiseau has a brand new internet show, and it’s about video games
Yes, that really strange guy who made that really strange movie, The Room. You can now watch him play video games, or at least try to.
Surely no one needs to be told about this century’s equivalent to Ed Wood. But if you’re not familiar with his masterwork of modern cinema, do whatever you can to see it. Very few things are as genuinely impossible to describe, nor genuinely awful, especially in an age in which everyone tries to make a crap movie on purpose. Sometimes you can’t mess with the real thing.
Anyhow, here’s the set-up for his new show: he’s been kidnapped by aliens, who force him to play games. So it’s sorta like Mystery Science Theater 3000, but what he’s served is not half bad, and there are no robotic sidekicks. I was somewhat hoping for the man-child who played Denny to play such a role, but alas, it’s not the case.
I also had fears that it would be an over-scripted mess, while the beginning part has Tommy clearly following cues, once he starts playing, it’s all Tommy. And as you can see, the real comedy comes from the fact that the dude doesn’t know a thing about video games…
… That was episode two; the show premiered last weekend. Here’s episode one in which he plays Mortal Kombat, which he’s a tad bit better at…
… Was anyone else as creeped out by his reaction to the female characters as I was? Anyhow, since I don’t think I’ve mentioned it before, fellow Room junkies might be interested in knowing that someone created a video game tribute to the movie. And it’s actually quite amazing!
… It can be played here.
