VIDEO: Was the PlayStation Network for you slow yesterday?
Did you have any problems purchasing games or downloading items from the PlayStation Store, or simply playing online? Well, there’s a reason..
The reason is called Anonymous…
When I first heard that they were going after Sony, I scratched my head. A gigantic corporation that primarily produces televisions, cameras, and video game consoles seemed like an odd choice, given their more notable targets: Scientology, both the Iranian and Egyptian governments, and the Westboro Baptist Church. Until the video brings up Sony’s most recent efforts to counter all the PS3 hacking going on, by going after a hacker named George Hotz who “jailbroke” (the current leet way of stating that something was been hax0red, btw) the PS3′s firmware, along with their means of seeing who else might be running the code on their systems, which could be constituted as an invasion of privacy.
Their basic stance that buying a PS3 and being to do whatever you want with it, like messing around with the operating system, much like a PC, is an interesting point of view to say least. The fact that much of this messing around involves playing games that should cost money, but are accessed for totally free, is of course why Sony and their defenders are up in arms.
Eh, if I had bothered to log in yesterday onto my PSN account, I probably would have noticed any issues with Sony’s network since it’s ALWAYS slow as sh*t. I still can’t believe people play for their Plus service. Oh boy, a demo a week before everyone else, whoopee. Oh, and a free copy of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 from the Genesis. Gee, thanks.
Sorry, no discussion of Anonymous is complete without passing along this most classic of YouTube clips…
They claim that their next step will be going after Sony executives and their families. Oh boy.
