VIDEO: Watch a blind person play video games, in some cases better than you
Watching him navigate Ocarina of Time will not only make you appreciate how well crafted the game is, but thank God that you have the gift of sight as well.
It’s been firmly established that I love Zelda, but I also really love instances of individuals being able to enjoy games, despite any unfair cards that life might have dealt them.
Well meet Terry Garrett. Aside from being an engineer (which means he automatically does a hell of a lot more than most lazy ass folks who can actually see), he’s also an avid gamer, provided that sounds are an integral part of the experience.
Here’s Terry showing us how he plays Ocarina, which involves plenty of trial and error, and the help of save states, via a PC emulator. But hey, whatever works…
As cheesy as it sounds, the dude is seriously an inspiration to us all. Anyhow, if you want to watch him go through the game, which he’s been doing so, slowly but surely, but sure to check out his YouTube page.
Though Zelda isn’t the only game he’s familiar with. Ever heard of Bit.Trip Runner? It’s a music heavy indie platformer, and it’s hard as hell. I’m into the those things, yet I totally suck at it (as do many; it’s legit tough as nails). Meanwhile, it’s like nothing to Terry…
Unfortunately the internet is full of dumb asses. Like how “eh, only just memorized when and where to hit the buttons”. Like A) that’s somehow easy to do, and B) as if that’s NOT how you play. There’s even been some who think it’s a joke, hence the following I guess; him playing the game with the monitor off…
