VIDEO: Will a game based on the downfall of humanity be the PS3′s brightest hour?
At the VGA this Saturday, Sony plans to unveil The Last of Us, a PlayStation 3 exclusive that some are claiming with be utterly “unbelievable”.
Aside from a pair of teasers, virtually nothing is known thus far, than the possibility of it being one of the last “great” PS3 games…
So it’s about the breaking down of civilization, maybe? Will it indeed tackle the heavy subjects presented above directly, or simply be another zombie game? Well, this second clip hints towards the former in my mind…
I’m calling it right now: it will be very Heavy Rain-esque. It’ll attempt to pioneer interactive storytelling by presenting man at his worst, in a manner that’s never been addressed in a video game, or dare I say entertainment in general. Though deep inside will be a story about love, devotion, and redemption. It will feature drop dead gorgeous, setting a new bar in graphic fidelity on the PS3.
And beneath it all will be a game that’s ultimately un-fun to play. One that will be dripping with pretentiousness, and which folks who perhaps know better will still embrace, due to their somewhat sad attempt at pandering to the public at large, since it’s a perfect candidate to show everyone that “hey, video games can be art too!” Which is a noble cause, and a belief I strongly stand by, but some of its biggest advocates are beyond embarrassing at this point.
Or it could just be another zombie game. Guess we’ll find out on Saturday night!
