Women goes nuts at the gaming section at Wal-Mart, fills the air with peppery spray, much head shaking ensues
And thus we have our first game related, Black Friday headline. BTW, what is it with Californians and pepper spray to being with?
Via Destructoid: last night, when the doors opened at 10pm at a Wal-Mart in Los Angeles (right off the back, I feel so sorry for the minimum wager that has to skip out on Thanksgiving plans to open up the store for unwashed, and thrifty masses), a stampede immediately ensued, unsurprisingly.
Apparently, most of the action went down at the video game section, which as noted a few times already, has some truly killer deals. Well, one woman that’s been described as a “competitive shopper” decided to pull out one of her many tricks in her bag, which was apparently a can of pepper spray.
But instead of protecting an Xbox 360 from just one person, she apparently let the toxin loose all over the place, causing many people to suffer with severe coughing, swelling of the face, redness, and other maladies.
First hand accounts paint even crazier picture, of folks getting into shoving matches over consoles and games, even tearing apart a shipping pallet that contained game related goods that had been meant to be opened at the stroke of 10, but folks were all testy and impatient by that point. It should be noted that the plastic used for such things are tough as nails, so to tear through them takes a lot. It also sounds that much of the discounted goods was destroyed by the stampede.
My favorite part is this quote from a person who arrived around midnight, after most of the hilarity had died down. She had no prior knowledge of events, but even if she did, it wouldn’t have made a difference: “I don’t care. I’m still getting my TV. I’ve never seen Wal-Mart so crazy, but I guess it could have been worse.” Jesus Christ.
On a related note, and for those who haven’t heard, that UC Davis cop has officially become an internet meme. Here’s a few of my favorites, as they pertain to gaming…
