Yes, let’s talk about ‘Minecraft’ for the 17,000th time
Sorry if you’re sick of hearing about it, but indie gaming’s sandbox sensation continues nab headlines, stemming from the big fan fest that just happened. Then again, nerds in Vegas is always a recipe for hijinks.
Apparently a LOT went down at MineCon. Aside from the also previously mentioned and long-awaited release of the full version, the Xbox 360 edition as also formally announced…
Been waiting for it, just so this douchebag and others can finally stop collecting a hallow paychecks (that are, unfortunately, still loaded with plenty of zeroes).
Though for the most part, ego trips and in fighting apparently rules the proceedings. The center of it all appears to be between the creator of tMinecraft himself and a group of modders that have become celebrities among the game’s fandom.
Basically, the group supposedly acted like prima donnas and immature in general, enough for Notch, the aforementioned creators of the Minecraft playpen, to publically proclaim that he wants nothing to do with the blokes (they’re from England btw).
This was done via Twtter, btw, which is the place where everyone makes statements about collaborators and the like. Thus far, it’s mostly been one side of the camp flinging mud at the other. And then there’s this, which is just a lot of hate directed at parties that I can’t quite pin down on.
Oh, also, apparently the entire thing itself was somewhat of a mess. Anyhow, it’s a big enough deal that actual news outlets like Edge and PC Gamer felt the need to report on it. Guess it’s hard to say what the real deal is until the dust settles down.
I feel foolish damning Yogscast, at least until they’ve made their promised “official statement”, but from my experience, I’ve seen plenty of examples of folks becoming stars within their own, tiny little universe, and letting such “power” totally going to their heads.
I’d pass along one of their videos, but I honestly can’t make heads or tails out of any of them. They’re for the truly hardcore Minecraft user, and will just leave it at that. Though everyone loves Mega 64, right?
And since we’re talking about the game, may as well pass along the following, which I’ve had for some time now and have been meaning to unload. Including… Minecraft X Battlefield…
A tribute to the game, via song, from a not so bad on the eyes (and ears) chick…
And some little kid totally freaking out over one of the more annoying (and unstoppable) foes that it contains…
