Google lets you rebuild Australia with Legos

Dan Seitz Contributing Writer, Tech

Google’s big developer conference starts today, and as a part of it, they’ve announced a new toy you can play with in Chrome.

Literally, it’s a toy: you can now build things on Google Maps with Lego, starting with Australia.

Here’s a YouTube video that explains the admittedly simple concept:

True, it’s not like the world was pounding down Google’s door, demanding the ability to cover a virtual map of Australia in lots of little nubbly CGI bricks.

But it really is Google at its best: playful, clever, encouraging creativity, and cute without being cloying. And Google will be expanding it shortly; right now you can only build on the Land Down Under.

If you want to kill some time at work playing with Legos, though, you’d better hope the IT department has installed Chrome. Needless to say, Google is still a company, so if you want to play with their toys, you’ll have to download their web browser. Good thing Chrome is the best widely used browser on the market right now. And hey, Legos!
