It’s like ‘Antiques Road Show,’ but with video games

Matt Hawkins Contributing Writer, Video Games

I’m not talking about rare video games being appraised, but rare items from video games. How’s that for high concept?

It’s called the Old-Time Treasure Appraise Show, the latest from The Gameological Society, and the idea is fairly novel: how much are warp whistles from the Mushroom Kingdom and like pick-ups worth?

And wouldn’t it be entertaining to find out, via some smug know it all, like on PBS? Well, so the theory goes. Here’s the first one, which is Super Mario Bros related…

And one that’s got something to do with Halo

Again, the concept is sound, but the execution is not quite there. Perhaps it just needs some time to build up steam.

Though not helping is how we just saw another video that tried to estimate the value of a video game item in the real world, but was totally serious about it, and was also totally brilliant as well.

What'd you think of this?
