Tumblr’s iOS app is finally up to the site’s standards

If you use Tumblr, or just go to funny Tumblrs, you’re probably fully aware that Tumblr has an iOS app, and that it stinks.

Seriously, it’s awful. Or, rather, it was. The app has gotten a complete overhaul and now it finally not only works, it works very, very well.

Above all, the interface has gotten a desperately needed overhaul. It’s much zippier in both styling and how responsive it is; it’s much faster to post or to scroll through the blogs you’re following.

It’s also greatly improved the handling of pictures, as now you can actually see decent thumbnails instead of cropped pieces of crap. Unfortunately, I found that the app was not necessarily a fan of GIFs, although they mostly worked.

The one downside is that if you’re writing a post, you’ll still have to use HTML tags; there are no text style options available on the actual posting page. But that’s really a minor flaw if you know your HTML, and if nothing else, at least you’ll be able to look at the various images in style.
