Police arrived to check on 61-year-old Phyllis Lasich after receiving reports from neighbors that the woman had been acting very strange, reportedly “outside the apartment completely naked and shouting nonsense.”

When police arrived, they heard a loud crashing noise within the apartment, only to be greeted by Lasich wielding a meat clever and yelling that she was going to kill the officers.

The officer most threatened by Lasich drew his weapon while another pointed a taser at her, but the woman refused to drop the knife.

Lasich swung the meat cleaver at them before eventually lying down on the ground and going with the officers’ commands. She then told officers, “Thank God you are here! They’ve been coming to kill me all day!”

You’ve got admire the police officers for their courage in the face of such a crazy situation. I’m not a police officer and if any 61-year-old topless woman approached me, I’d probably run away screaming in horror. She wouldn’t even have to be wielding a meat cleaver. Her saggy breasts, withered ovaries, and dashed dreams are more than enough of a weapon to keep me at bay.

There are like 50 different versions of Girls Gone Wild on the market now and you will see an infomercial for every single one of them between the hours of 2 am and 6 am. I couldn’t believe it myself, so I had to buy a few just to make sure that they weren’t pulling my leg. And you know what, they were in fact going wild. Also going wild, my credit card bill.

Apparently there are a lot of people out there like me that can’t sleep properly. The Internet is full of experts and insomniacs with lists of ways to ensure you have a good nights sleep. All of them are almost identical. They can all be narrowed down to “Relax, don’t do anything physical before bed and try not to think about anything stressful when lying in bed.” So basically, you need to be asleep to actually go to sleep. It’s just that simple. Thanks a lot “experts.”

As a night owl, I’ll often do things and go places that other normal folks go and do during the day. And when you are out and about in the dead of night you notice that the only other folks kicking around at that time are trucks hauling stuff and the boys in blue. You have to be careful not to speed in the middle of the night because let’s face it, cops aren’t real busy at that point and anything out of the ordinary is going to grab their attention. Speeding, having a busted taillight, swerving and doing doughnuts in the Krispy Kreme parking lot are all going to get you pulled over. You have to drive smart to avoid sleepily explaining to cops what you are doing out at weird hours.

Sure, a little scotch or a hot toddy sounds tempting when you can’t seem to relax enough to go to sleep, but sometimes having a “nightcap” just turns into having a “fortnight” cap. You tell yourself that you’ll just drink enough to put yourself down and sometimes that happens, as you have a drink or two and sleep like a baby. Or sometimes your body doesn’t necessarily feel the same way your brain does and you find yourself quite intoxicated at 5 am and wondering if sleep is even a problem anymore, as you have to be up in a few hours and, well, you’re drunk. One note though: It’s not a good idea to go to the office smelling of booze and rambling incoherently through a presentation like Dudley Moore after a tour of the Smirnoff factory.

A man nicknamed “Big Dog” was sentenced to jail, but then immediately paroled, after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct for barking at a police dog.

Monessen police said [Norris] Daniels was taunting a police dog Ibo in the back of a police cruiser and kept barking at the animal after an officer told him to stop.

Daniels said he was barking at some nearby pit bulls, not the police dog, and “was at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Officer Brian Vitale told Channel 4 Action News that, while it may sound silly to charge someone with barking at a dog, it’s a serious matter because the animals become unpredictable when they are angered.

“He’s learned a lot of behaviors, and he’s trained in different languages and things like that, and when you are barking at the dog, he’s going to act out,” Vitale said. “And if the door would have opened while he was barking at that dog, that dog would have attacked him.”

I don’t have enough details on this story yet (if you have them, leave it in the comments), but my “Somebody’s going to claim this is racism” sense is tingling. Then again, given that there are probably five black people in Wisconsin and four of them play for the Packers really doesn’t reflect well on the racial sensitivity of the state. A central New York man who popped open a beer just after a court appearance for drunken driving has been sentenced to prison.

Eugene Havens was arrested last November on multiple drunken driving charges in Herkimer County in the Mohawk Valley. During a county court hearing in January, Havens was told by the judge that he wasn’t permitted to drive a motor vehicle while his case was being resolved.

Havens was released on his own recognizance. Authorities say after leaving the court he walked to a vehicle in the parking lot, pulled out a beer, opened it, urinated on the ground, got behind the wheel and drove off.

Soon after he was stopped by Herkimer police, arrested and returned to court.

This guy just sounds classy. Peeing on the floor AND drinking beer before driving? I hope he didn’t spill anything on his Ralph Lauren suit or the copy of the New Yorker he was undoubtedly carrying.

Well, on the plus side, it was only one beer. Maybe he’s just working it out in his own way. First driving with just a couple beers. Maybe in a week or two he’d be driving with a Mike’s Hard Lemonade or five. Worst case scenario, he’s trashed off Jack Daniels and riding a unicycle in a month.

To be fair, you can also see what the cop had a problem with. The guy was doing something to the window and it may have looked like he was trying to kick it out. It also appears as though the cop tells him to stop doing that but the man continued to do it anyway. So there’s at least some vague sort of rationale there for the cop.

But still, if you’re a cop at this point, don’t you realize there are cameras on you ALL THE TIME? If you’re going to insist on beating and tasering people, at least drag their head to look at one of the cameras afterward and go, “Gotcha! You’re on Candid Police Camera!” Then you both can share a laugh and you go back to beating him bloody and he’ll think, “Hey, at least I’m in on the fun.”

A 78-year-old Hallandale Beach grandmother ticketed for driving with a suspended driver’s license spent 15 days in jail before authorities announced her license wasn’t suspended and an outraged judge set her free.

County Court Judge Lee J. Seidman ordered Gabrielle Shaink Trudeau’s release in December at her arraignment.

“She’s handcuffed like Houdini, for the record. She’s got chains around her waist, and she’s got handcuffs in front around her hands as if she was some kind of a violent criminal,” the judge said, according to a transcript. “I want her released. I think she’s suffered enough at our system’s mistakes.”

Safeguards built into Broward’s judicial system are designed to prevent what happened to Shaink Trudeau. But the prolonged jailing of an elderly woman with no previous criminal record over a traffic ticket has left red-faced authorities admitting they botched her case.

“It was almost like she was invisible. I deeply apologize to this woman,” said Broward Public Defender Howard Finkelstein.

No wonder Jay Leno’s ratings were so abysmal that NBC had to move him from his time slot. He probably lost 30% of his audience from this woman being jailed for so long.

[S]ix weeks after the warrant [for driving with a suspended license] was issued, three brawny Broward Sheriff’s deputies arrested Shaink Trudeau in her kitchen.

“They came on real strong, like I had killed somebody or something,” she said.

That makes sense. There isn’t a lot of crime going in Florida anyway. Not like it’s a huge drug port or leading state in domestic violence and murder. By stopping this 78-year-old woman from driving poorly out on the streets, these police officers really made a difference. That’ll learn her for living long enough to make people around her feel uncomfortable about their mortality.

In the cop’s defense, the tasing of the man while he’s on the ground is out of the camera’s line of sight. For all we know, he may not have been tasing him, but rather tickling him or telling him a scary ghost story.

A man pleaded not guilty to three charges after allegedly punching two people, crashing his car into theirs, and telling police officers they couldn’t tell him what to do, a criminal complaint stated.

Rogers, who was bleeding from the head, was immediately pinned against a patrol car and handcuffed for questioning.

Nasario Carrillo told police Rogers was drinking beer with them and got in an argument, punching him and Jo Anna Carrillo in the face. He said he was able to push Rodgers out the back door and lock it. He said Rogers then banged on the door with his head and fists.

Now assuming Seagal is doing the work of a regular cop, this is pretty cool. But at the same time, I’d be a little concerned about Steven Seagal publicly representing my town’s police force. Cops have to do a lot to dispel stereotypes about their work, but to see Seagal fatly moving from the movie screen (or, more accurately, straight-to-DVD bargain bin at your local gas station) to saving the day isn’t going to do a whole lot to make people think that cops are uniquely qualified to protect us. You could pretty much build a Jello replica of Steven Seagal and it’d do the same quality of work. And have the same body density.

A 21-year-old man, who told Montgomery police during a job interview that he possessed child pornography and had sex with an underage girl, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Circuit Judge Ben Fuller sentenced Max D. Hinton of Deatsville on Monday after his conviction of second-degree rape, sodomy , enticing a child for immoral purposes and producing and possessing child pornography.

The girl testified the two had consensual sex when she was 15 and he was 17. But a person younger than 16 in Alabama can’t legally consent to have sex, and the judge voiced outrage over the child pornography involving girls as young as 6.

There was no explanation why Hinton mentioned the pornography in his job interview, which prompted an investigation and his arrest.

This guy definitely didn’t have the best idea in admitting right off the bat that he did these things. And having sex with a 15 year-old when you’re 17 isn’t the worst thing in the world, though I suppose it’s technically illegal in some states. But then when you frame it with the fact that you have kiddy porn of girls as young as 6, of course it’s going to look even worse. He could have admitted to jaywalking before the child porn admission and it would have immediately looked 10 times worse. “Oh, bet he was jaywalking to go LURE A CHILD IN HIS SORDID WEB OF SEXUAL DEVIANCY.” Which may or may not be why the chicken crossed the road.
