Last night our girl Gina Carano got the Frank Mir kicked out of her by the Brock Lesnar of women’s MMA Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos, pretty much bringing an end to my interest in women’s MMA. Gina fought hard but was no match for the overwhelming strength of Cyborg and couldn’t make it out of the first round, making Cyborg Santos the first women’s champion in Strikeforce history. A title that she will probably hold as long as The Fabulous Moolah held her title in the WWF.

Let’s start out with an interview Gina did recently discussing Cyborg and her game plan, the “Beauty & the Beast” comparisons, dropping the weight, the alleged sex tape, and this being the first title fight in women’s MMA history…

Cage Potato came across video of Gina Carano’s very first MMA fight in which she dropped a beatdown on some poor chick named Leiticia Pestova in under a minute, which is what I expect out of Gina tonight or else, despite Gina’s protests, women’s MMA can pretty much shut it’s doors because ain’t one guy out there paying a dime to watch Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos carry an event.

As of this morning Carano was a +125 ‘dog on Sports-1.com, but I think Gina knows she is going to have to win if women’s MMA is to take another step and I predict that that knowledge will propel her to the victory tonight. Plus I couldn’t possibly bear it if she lost.

In the women’s event, highly touted Shayna Baszler took a beating from Brazilian Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos, setting up what should be a great bout between Cyborg and Gina Carano.

In other action, Jake Shields submitted Nick Thompson early in round one to win the welterweight championship, while in what I considered the fight of the night, Nick Diaz TKO’d Thomas Denny in a big-time slugefest.
