But it’s in excellent condition and comes with the Robotic Operating Buddy!

Available on eBay, right this second, is the Nintendo Entertainment System Deluxe Set, the very first incarnation of the system, which came out in 1985…

It includes with the system (obviously), two controllers (ditto), the Zapper light gun (sporting the original gray hue, before it became an unsightly orange), and ROB, the robot that was supposed to play games alongside you (but which didn’t work out that well; you would die constantly, all because of the piece of plastic’s poor/slow reflexes).

Two games are included, to take advantage of the later two peripherals, Duck Hunt and Gyromite. Oddly enough, there’s no Super Mario Bros.

According to the eBay listing, it’s graded 85 by the video game authority, an entity that I’ve never heard of, despite all my years of covering (and collecting) video games, but I’ll have to assume that they’re as legit as those folks who grade comic books and sports cards. As in, they are, I guess?

It’s worth noting that there’s a reason why Mario Bros was not included. The set was a special test marketed version of the console, sold only in NYC. This was not too long after the video game crash of the early 80s, so many toy companies were skittish about having anything to do with electronic gaming. Nintendo got on their hands and knees, and a few retailers went “why the hell not.”

A key part of the strategy called for referring to the NES as a souped up toy, more than a regular ol’ video game system. Hence why one of the best games of all time, certainly at that point in time, took a back seat to software that drove a gun and robot. Which in turn ended up being Trojan horses of sorts. The thing sold like hot cakes (along with SMB, which was available alongside), enough for it to be sold throughout the country the following months, and the rest as they say is history.

So there is a legit reason for such a high price tag, since it is part of video game history.

If you’ve ever watched TV, you’ve undoubtedly seen the Dos Equis commercials featuring the Most Interesting Man in the World. He’s been the spokesman/mascot/face of the brand since 2006, making him one of the longest running non-irritating ad campaigns that I can recall.

His most recent endeavor though was to improve upon his Most Interesting Jam in the World, and he left it up to Facebook to decide what the three main ingredients would be. The final product was drawn from nearly 3000 suggestions. The first ingredient is Indian Borage (aka: Cuban oregano), which he found in its native East Africa. Try wrapping your head around that collection of locations. The next is gold dust, which I believe to be actual particles of gold, not the former wrestler. And last, but certainly not least, are grasshoppers in Thai herbs. To round things out there are also apples, sugar and apple cider vinegar.

While this may seem completely irrelevant to beer, it works well to add to the mystique of The Most Interesting Man in the World. It’s also for a good cause.

The Wombat Foundation will be the beneficiary of all funds raised from the eBay auction. An organization The Most Interesting Man encountered while on one of his many transcontinental journeys across Australia.

Now if that’s not a good enough reason to bid on some obscure jam, I don’t know what is. For too long kangaroos have hogged all of the spotlight down under, but thanks to Dos Equis, the wombats might finally get a fair shake. I’m currently the highest bidder, but unfortunately I don’t think my $0.99 will be good enough to better my toast.

To check out the auction, just head to the ebay page. And remember…this one is for the wombats.

Provided if you know where to look, or, if you’re willing to pay $1,725 like one idiot already did.

So most eagerly awaited game of the year #1,422 (actually, more like the twelfth) is finally out next week, Modern Warfare 3. Next Tuesday to be in exact. But if you’re lucky, you might be near a K-Mart that has decided to break the street date!

Since yesterday, reports have been popping up all over the country of certain big Ks that have been selling copies well before they’re supposed to. And that’s great if you absolutely, really have to get you Modern Warfare on ASAP. Unfortunately, there’s a certain degree of risk involved.

At first, a Microsoft rep said via Twitter that it was totally cool to fire up the game, if you managed to get your hands on a copy…

And then a few hours later, another statement was made…

Activitision has since clarified their stance on the matter. According to Destructoid, logging onto XBLA with the copy could get you banned. Yes, even if it was a legally obtained copy. That’s nice.

No doubt MS and Activision’s lawyers have been flooding every inbox of K-Mart’s that they can get ahold of, and perhaps copies have been pulled off shelves. Hence why it’s all of a sudden a hot commodity. Especially on eBay, with the most ridiculous example being pointed out via Joystiq…

… Kids today. Jesus.

Meanwhile, a perfectly nice Sega Master System that had the Star of David adorned, for Rosh HaShanah, gets zero press at all. Such a shame.

Kotaku got the first dibs on this story: when Brittany Wampler from Maryland purchased two used NESs on eBay, one had the image of J.C. himself on the top of the console: “We were inspecting it for cracks/damage and when we turned it just right into the light, the image showed up… Our reaction was mainly curiosity at first. Then as we looked at it closer and ruled out what it couldn’t be, we began to get excited about it.”

She then explains that there’s no discernible difference between the surface of the image and the surrounding plastic. It’s clearly not point, nor a sticker, and is “basically infused” onto the plastic. Weird. Kotaku asked for photographic evidence, and they believe what they received was not Photoshopped. Furthermore, when Wampler asked when it all meant, she replied with: “I was raised religious, but I haven’t made up my mind really… I would say I believe in the possibility.”

And unlike most other religious kooks who becomes super seriously when the Holy Spirt magically appears on their toast, this lady at least has a sense of humor: “If it is Jesus, I think we can finally put the big question to bed…What Would Jesus Play?” And truth be told, if Christ ever appeared on my Dreamcast, I’d probably become a Bible thumper overnight, so kudos to this lady!

… Not sure about you, but I love how you first assume this is a fairly young dude. And then when you see that Bartman poster on the door, which was on sale at Spencer’s gifts back in 1991, one beings to realize how old he must be.

And then around the 7 minute mark is when things just get supremely depressing. Having doubles of Nintendo Power magazines and saved boxes of Pokemon cereal is just… wow. It seriously makes this dude look positively healthy in comparison.

I mean, whatever makes you happy, seriously, and perhaps I’m just insanely jealous that I live in a tiny Manhattan apartment, which keeps my collecting tendencies in check. Actually, come to think of it, that’s a good thing.

On a related, something similarly insane recently appeared on eBay, and just came to a close yesterday. It was a 99.9% complete collection of every NES game and accessory ever produced. Not does it include everyone officially released game in America, as well unofficially released titles, but European exclusives, Asian bootlegs, and homebrews. And I mean EVERY single one.

Evem game paks made for special events, like the Nintendo World Championship hybrid cart. Which all by itself costs thousand of dollars (okay, so it’s not the “main” cart, but an alternate one, hence the 99%) btw. So how much did it all go for? Why, just $75,000

This may have been a hoax but I REALLYYYYY hope it wasn’t. According to Gawker, a 19 year-old sexy broad auctioned her virginity on the Internet yesterday.

Say what you will about the other girl selling her virginity Natalie Dylan (and many of you commenters certainly did), but she has a lot more going for her than this girl…including four working limbs.

Welcome! You are bidding on a 19 yr old quadriplegic girl for her VIRGINITY!!!
I may not look much to you but you can did what ever fantasies you have on me! You will need to pay for a hotel with wheelchair access or make sure your house is accessable! Don’t have to use condoms!
Feel free to e-mail any questions! Bank Deposit accepted only! Enjoy! Thankyou! Good Luck!

I’m all for women opting to take control of their destiny. Though in this case (assuming it was real because dammit I want to believe), it probably was just someone looking to sell this girl without her knowledge. Which makes sense because it’s pretty humane to see a quadriplegic mess and think, “Hmm, I wonder how much money I would get for someone who wants to split her hymen?” That’s a little something called entrepreneurship. It’s practically the exact same thing as creating the Ford Model T for the first time, especially when you consider that they’re both poorly constructed, can’t move without wheels, and would provide you the same amount of pleasure when f’ing it.

How bad has it gotten in Ann Arbor? Well first, head coach Rich Rodriguez was so fed up with the message board fodder that he told fans “to get a life”.

And now the fans are so irate with the poor season Michigan is having and the fact that RichRod hates them so much, that they are selling their UM allegiance on ebay.

Yes folks, for the very cheap price of $81, you can purchase a new team for this sorry UM fan. And by sorry, I mean, everyone knows he’s just trying to make a few bucks.

The seller promises to denounce the University of Michigan and to burn all his Michigan belongings. He’ll even go along if the winning bid is from an OSU fan.

On a side note, whenever I think the human race can’t fall any further, I read stuff like this. All for the almighty buck I guess.

(By the way, click on an ad or two while you’re here….)

Nothing like commemorating a guys mishap that cost him an entire season. But thats exactly what the West Michigan Whitecaps did earlier this week when they gave out a bobblehead of Dave Rozema performing a karate kick.

In 1982 during a bench clearing brawl, Rozema attempted this kick at a Minnesota Twins player. He missed and conequently tore eight ligaments in his knee

Rozema is actually very lucky. If this had happened when there were internets, he’d be a God amongst bloggers.
