And also for giggles. Look, we’re assuming this got started as a prank, even if the idea IS Japanese.

The basic experiment works like this: a wire is fed into a straw and hooked up to a nine-volt battery. You sip through the straw, and the wire puts a little extra, a very little extra, zap into your drink, which is lemonade in this case.

The result? Well, if you work for a marketing department, your food would become a taste sensation. In reality, though, it made the lemonade blander; electricity makes food taste saltier.

There are all sorts of applications for this which are pretty much completely insane, like downloading “taste profiles” and tricking people into eating blander food by altering their perception of it.

Or you could just shock them. We like that idea better.

Like, for example, transglutaminase, better known among restaurant types as “meat glue”. Its job? To turn chunks of stew meat into a patty that can be passed off as an actual decent cut of meat.

Here’s how it works: transglutaminase, when applied, forms an invisible bond between two chunks of meat. In fact, you can’t tell the difference between the two pieces once they’re stuck together, even if you’re a trained chef with years of experience.

So, take beef scraps, form into a patty and you’ve basically got something indistinguishable from the actual cut of beef you were supposed to get when you slapped down $25.

The good news? It’s easy to buy this stuff yourself…which means you can use it to mess with your friends. Time for boob steaks!

Some of the things I will mention ahead will shock and disgust you, but I still feel I have to mention candy, because candy is meant to be blissful and fun, satisfying your craving and bringing out your inner child at the same time. So, it’s especially offensive to the palate and mind when you have to deal with shitty candy that should never have been invented in the first place…



First up are candy buttons, an idiotic creation that involves the uncomfortable consumption of little candy pellets along with tiny bits of saliva-wet paper. I don’t know about you, but like my bank statements, I prefer my candy paper-less.

7 Good N Plenty

Black licorice tastes like zombie chocolate and Good N Plentys are like big, ugly pills your doctor prescribes you for being an asshole. If you have to make any type of licorice candy then make it sweet, red and with the ability to use it as a straw like Twizzlers. Bad and Enoughs is the corny name I would give these if I had my way with the universe, though something tells me that wouldn’t be very good for their marketing campaign.

6 Necco Wafers

You can’t have fun, be a kid or satisfy your sweet tooth when you’re eating discs of ass-flavored chalk out of a wax paper roll. This is Halloween-ian blasphemy!



Now it’s time to move on from slightly more hardcore foods that won’t satisfy your hunger because you’re too busy vomiting at the thought of them…

5 Pigs Feet

The pig has so many wonderful parts to it; the ribs, the loin, the shoulder, the butt….why eat the feet? I suppose the short answer would be that it’s a tradition for some because in olden days the feet were a throwaway portion of the animal and the poor (who could not afford better sources of piggy protein) would find a way to eat it. But these things are uncommonly bad. Even if they’re served up by an amazing chef, you’ll still only have a few precious bites of meat before you hit a culinary wall of bone, gristle and general nastiness. Wait, aren’t Skittles made out of the gelatin from these? I do love tasting the rainbow, so maybe pig’s feet get a pass for that.

4 Oysters

If I wanted to eat something wet, filmy and slimy, I would eat boogers. If I wanted to eat something briny, grainy and fishy I would eat fish dicks. (That’s a South Park reference, not an actual reference for fish penises, mind you.) If I wanted to eat something with all those charming attributes, only then would I eat an oyster. But I don’t, so I won’t.

3 Tripe

This is the organ that was used to create the horrifying “face huggers” in the movie Alien and I’m not even close to kidding. Can’t you see it? And if you purchase this in an ethnic grocery store it looks like a fat, slimy organ with a thick, white honey-combed lunch lady hair net encasing it. This does not please me.

This is another one that seems inexcusable. Why would you literally want to eat dick? I have heard things about tiger penises having certain therapeutic properties in Eastern medicine, but if I were in need of some therapy, I might just choose to eat a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Chubby Hubby. It’s just like Pizza Hut’s normal stuffed crust pizza, only instead of delicious melted cheese, the crust is stuffed with meat sticks. And while this sounds like something you’d see on “This is Why You’re Fat” or “Epic Meal Time,” it’s a real product. Thankfully for your waistline, arteries, and dignity, it’s only available in the UK.

I’d love to pretend I’m totally into this idea, but to be completely honest, it sounds disgusting. I can’t see any circumstance in which a hot dog belongs anywhere near a pizza let alone inside it. I don’t even support the fact that pizza is sold at the same concession stands as hot dogs at baseball parks. I’m willing to bet this tastes like complete garbage, and the idea of a mustard drizzle only makes matters worse.

Am I out of line here? Obviously we’d almost all be willing to try one slice, but does anyone actually think this is going to be good?

Onlookers were simultaneously horrified and disgustingly voyeuristic, with some photographing and to not filming the incident as the unidentified man was carted off in the middle of his meal.

According to employees speaking to a local Las Vegas news station, the man was sweating, shaking, and unable to speak before an ambulance took him away.

The bacon milkshake is part of the fast food chain’s “Marry Bacon” campaign that we covered last week.

According to Jack in the Box’s Web site, the 16 oz bacon milkshake packs 773 calories and 40 grams and fat along with 12 sweet sweet grams of protein.

For those interested in how you can attempt this on your own, the restaurant says the shake is flavored with Torani bacon syrup rather than real bacon. Which is good because when you’re going to get a bacon milkshake, you want the most unhealthy route possible.

A spokesperson for the chain says the offer is “as limited as limited can be” so if you want your arteries clogged in the most extravagant and shameful way possible, you better act fast.

7 Molten Hot Wing Potato Chips
I don’t smoke weed, but these make me want to smoke weed because I want to crave hot wing potato chips on every level. I want to crave them while sober and while I am in an altered state of mind and even while I am sleeping. I want to get high with my new weed friends and stare at the bag and try to think of a better idea in the world than these little ridged discs of succulence, but I know we will not be able to.

You know who likes plain popcorn? No one. Most of us need salt and butter just to choke the stuff down. The magnificent bastards at J&D found a way to put bacon on office supplies. We will all work for them someday. Then they’ll get greedy and start turning human beings into Soylent Green. If you have ever been to a mall food court in the United States, you have been approached by someone giving away samples of bourbon chicken. Odds are, either on that trip to the mall or on some other, you ordered bourbon chicken. That’s how damned delightful it is. Asian Chow Hawaiian Wok Express or whatever it’s called can GIVE ITS PRODUCT AWAY and still make a profit because it knows that once you take one sweet delicious bite of bourbon chicken, which as far as any of us knows does not exist outside of malls, you will be hooked for life.

4 Pepperoni Pizza Combos
On road trips I eat these things by the gross because THERE IS NO BETTER ROAD TRIP FOOD THAN PIZZA COMBOS AND SODA. None. I don’t care that the pepperoni pizza dust that coats these little nuggets of gorgeous tastes nothing like an actual pepperoni pizza. All I know is that when I finish the bag, I lick my fingers, then I put my wet fingers inside the bag to wipe up the remaining pepperoni pizza molecules, then I lick my fingers again, and then I weep quietly, for my snack is gone.

3 Bayhawk Chocolate Porter
One way parents teach their kids not to drink beer is by giving them a sip of some nasty-ass macro-brew. If my dad had given me a taste of the wonderful, chocolaty goodness of Bayhawk Chocolate Porter when I was a kid, my entire childhood would have revolved around procuring fake IDs, filching chocolate porters from my friends’ parents’ refrigerators and trying to get a job at Bayhawk Brewing at age 10. Bottom line: I’d be dead by now. Keep away from children.

2 Jalapeno Carne Seca Beef Jerky
I don’t know what carne seca means in Spanish, but my guess is “mouthgasm.” Beef jerky is one of the rare foods that is good on its own, but when you kick it up a notch with some jalapeno action, you’ve got dinner, friend. Yes, beef jerky can be dinner. What the hell do you think John Wayne ate? Salmon? The man ate beef jerky and smoked Lucky Strikes and drank Texaco motor oil every night like a real man.

1 Cool Ranch Doritos
The perfect snack food on every level. Maybe the perfect food. Most snack chips are plain and boring and awful, which is why we Americans fill our arteries with ranch dressing and onion dip and give ourselves diabetes at kids’ birthday parties. There is no need for dip with Cool Ranch Doritos. They taste like the dip you would otherwise be dipping them into. What I’m saying is these goddamn things save lives.

Just opened in one of Tokyo’s trendiest districts, Shinjuku, is a brand new restaurant that is serving up assorted dishes, all based around various games of theirs. Everything from Resident Evil to Sengoku Basara. Here’s a look at the menu, via Capcom Unity not too long ago…

Well, it just opened for business, and they just posted a closer look at the list of entrees. Monster Hunter spare ribs looks pretty damn good…

As does the Phoenix Wright themed onion rings and octopus balls (I don’t get the connection, but they look tasty nonetheless)…

Last year, Capcom did something similar, specifically to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Resident Evil, where they gave a bar a facelift for a limited time. The selection of food wasn’t as wild, but they did allow patrons to fire rounds from replicas of the guns in the game, which was pretty cool.

As pointed out by Wired, is a UK based food blog called Gourmet Gaming. The premise is simple: they take virtual cuisine and make them real. The results are impressive, though it helps that they go for dishes that sound appetizing to begin with. Like the aforementioned poultry from Streets of Rage (sans the notion that it’s found in trash or just lying on the ground)…

Here we have the chilidog from Sonic Generations (which itself was an ode to Sonic’s penchant for them in the old, early 90s, weekday afternoon cartoon)…

Everyone knows by now that Skyrim has a heavy emphasis on food, like all recent entries of Elder Scrolls. Here we have the series staple, the sweet roll…

And here we have what a ration from Metal Gear Solid is supposed to be like. Though I can tell you first hand, being a military brat and all, that Army food, especially the stuff that’s on the go, does not normally look this delicious…

Okay, here’s a weird one (finally); in Paper Mario, there’s a dish that the Koopas like called Koopasta, which is basically a plate of very green pasta. You know, it doesn’t sound too exciting to me, but I can imagine vegans on the other hand being super interested…

Finally, time for desert! So the cake from Portal is not a lie, but actually delicious…

The pixelated cake from Minecraft doesn’t have quite the sharp angles, but again looks quite nice…

And here’s the pizza sundae from Costume Quest, easily the most mouth watering thing thus far…
