The results from the Great American Beer Festival are in, and some of them may surprise you.

Before I start rambling off the winners, let me give you a couple figures. Don’t feel bad if you don’t recognize the majority of the breweries, let alone the beers. There were 3,930 beers entered in the contest representing 526 breweries. If you could name 50 breweries I would have been incredibly impressed. 28 states plus Puerto Rico were represented. I’m not sure which states were left out, but shame on them.

Things that surprised me:

1) Indiana had the highest rate of medal winning at 19.2% (10/51). I knew the Hoosiers brewed some good beers, but I didn’t know they were at that level. It may be time to go on some brewery tours down there.

2) A brewery from my hometown of Flint, MI managed to take a silver medal in the Sweet Stout category with their Cream Stout, so congrats to Redwood Brewing Co. I actually used to go there (for food) before I was even of legal age to drink.

3) In the American-Style Lager category, Red Dog won the gold, Rainier took silver, and Old Style picked up the bronze. Seriously? We can’t find anyone to make a better beer than those? I would rather go to an Aquafina party than drink any of them.

Small Brewing Company & Small Brewing Company Brewer of the Year

And now for your Gold Medal Winners. If you want a visualization of where all of these breweries are, check out this map. I’d also recommend using Ctrl-f to easily see if anyone near you won.

According to the state police officer, Womack was marching down the shoulder of the highway while shirtless, wielding a samurai sword “like a drum major,” moving it rhythmically as he marched.

As the officer on site approached Womack, he allegedly swung the sword in a defensive fashion before dropping it at the trooper’s command.

Womack then attempted to force his way into a car that pulled over to avoid the parked police car before being apprehended. Officers found marijuana on him.

After being cuffed, Womack was taken to a local police station where he informed police that he was “cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.” He was charged with attempted car jacking, resisting law enforcement, and possession of marijuana.

Regardless of Womack’s temporary insanity as a result of overly-sweetened chocolate treats, the real victims of this story are everyone fighting for the positive benefits of marijuana. It’d be speculation to say pot made Womack do all these insane things, but the fact that he was acting crazy with pot found on him certainly doesn’t help the stereotypes associated with smokers. Neglecting cartoon dogs, marching through Indiana with samurai swords…the simpler times of making oversized sandwiches and listening to mediocre jam bands are long gone.

But it’s the reason behind that possible eviction that is raising provocative questions that pit the rights and moral beliefs of a business owner against the obligation of the city to do all it can to prevent discrimination and encourage tolerance.

The city is investigating whether the owner of Just Cookies engaged in discrimination last week when he cited moral objections to homosexuality as his reason for declining a customer’s request to provide rainbow-iced cookies for a “National Coming Out Day” event planned for Oct. 7 at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

“That could be grounds for taking away their stand in the market,” said Wayne Schmidt, president of the City Market Board, who said Just Cookies is on a month-to-month lease. “I’d hate to lose them, but we can’t tolerate any kind of discrimination like that.”

Kids aren’t playing nice in the Big Ten this year. It started with Michigan’s Zack Novak pummeling an Ohio State player with an elbow at the free throw line. Then teammate Manny Harris lit up Kramer of Purdue breaking his nose.

And now, add Devan Dumes to the list. Saturday, Dumes threw 3 separate elbows at MSU players. One of which hit big man Goran Suton “in the family jewels”.

The last elbow thrown very late in the game got Dumes ejected and now Tom Crean has taken it one step further.

He’s suspended him indefinitely.

As Indiana faces off against MSU tomorrow for the Old Brass Spitoon, its hard to think that both of these schools once stood atop the BigTen.

Indiana, which does not have a winning record against any Big Ten school somehow managed to play for the Big Ten Title against MSU in 1987.

After losing the game, Indiana coach Bill Mallory visited the locker room to address MSU Coaches and players.

Its not often we see this type of sportsmanship from any single individual. I can’t imagine the type of hype this would receive from ESPN, SI, or Foxsports if it happened today.

A new study by Men’s Health says that Indianapolis is the most sexually satisfied city in the US.

Forget New York, Los Angeles, or even Miami, Indianapolis is the most sexually satisfied city in the United States, according to a new report.

The Indiana city is followed by Columbus, Ohio, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Salt Lake City, Utah, in the report by Men’s Health Magazine that ranked the sexual satisfaction of people in 100 cities.

“Maybe they should take the stretch of I-74 that’s linking Indianapolis to fourth-place Cincinnati and hereafter call it ‘America’s Sex Drive’,” said David Zinczenko, the editor of the magazine, referring to the motorway linking the cities.

Researchers analyzed data on condom sales, birth rates from the U.S. Census Bureau and sales figures from two top sex-toy retailers to compile the ranking.

Well, that’s apparently Miss Indiana. So you can see why they’re so sexually satisfied…who doesn’t have an ET the Extra Terrestrial fetish? Nothing gets me going more than an undersized body with a big grape-shaped head and bug eyes. Niiiiiiice.

If anything though, I would question the methodology of Men’s Health. I mean, who’s to say that all those condoms are being used? Their birth rates are so high, maybe there are just condom collectors or people that really like making lubricated balloon animals (and who doesn’t!). I’d also say that more sex toy sales would mean less true sexual satisfaction. For every pocket pussy I f, it just means one more Real Vagina filled with disappointment. And lies. And wasted Barbie dolls. Ohhhhh sex with minors, you slay me.

Thoughts

At what point does MSU start looking at the way their offense is run. Yesterday, the Spartans shot a respectable 46.7% from the field but the difference was the 19 turnovers.

The players look scared out there. They are scared to make an error for fear of getting pulled out of the game.

I am no basketball expert, but if your team plays scared, they wont play confidently. And that’s exactly what Goran Suton and others are looking like right now.

Is this a free-fall for MSU? Probably not, many people, including myself knew they were going to be losses. The more troubling thing is that this teams lacks an identity and for the first time in a long time, I don’t think the message that Izzo is sending is doing any good.

With more losses coming on the road, it will be interesting to see if Izzo shuffles the lineup. As of right now, if this team ends the season with 8/9 losses, you can mark it down as the worst coaching season of Tom Izzo’s career.
