In all, Hamilton went 5-5 on the night, adding a double in his other at-bat. On the season he’s hitting .406 with 14 HR and 36 RBI. MVP type numbers for a guy who had a tumultuous off-season, including an embarrassing alcohol relapse in February.

According to individuals familiar with the episode, Hamilton drank alcohol Monday night at Sherlock’s Pub & Grill in Dallas. Teammate Ian Kinsler also showed up at the bar for what appeared to be an attempt to persuade Hamilton to return to his home in Westlake.

A sad setback for a man who has worked hard to rid himself of past demons. Who knows where he goes from here and whether this was just a one-time incident. As most addicts will tell you though, there is no such thing as just “one drink” or “one time”.

Experts, at first had said jurors would come back Wednesday but others aren’t so sure. “I would say it is still early to be thinking about a hung jury,” said Douglas Tween, a former trial attorney in the Justice Department’s antitrust division and now a principal at Baker & McKenzie. “A general rule of thumb is one to two days of deliberation for every week of trial, so I don’t think this case is unusual at this point.”

Josh Hamilton received 22 of 28 first place votes (78.6%) to take home the AL MVP award yesterday. That’s fine and dandy and much kudos to Hamilton, but if you ask me, there isn’t any player offensively that scares the living bejesus out of pitchers more than Miguel Cabrera. Had the Tigers not been eliminated from the playoffs in August, this would have been his award, hands down. As it stands, he still finished a respectable second.
