Since we’re caught in that sports abyss between the Super Bowl and March Madness, we though it’d be a good idea to help everyone make the time pass a little quicker. And nothing makes passing time more enjoyable than looking at and debating about beautiful women. So in an effort to combine two great male interests, sports and women, here are the 66 sexiest female athletes in the world.

Note: Lingerie Football League players are not included on this list. Their number one job qualification is being hot so let’s just assume 90% of them fall into the top 66 and leave it at that. If we counted them, they’d just dominate the list and that’s no fun. Wrestling divas are also not listed because while being very athletic they’re actresses and pro wrestling is not a sport. Also not included: poker players and billiards stars. Sorry, but they’re not athletes.

Career Highlights: Natascha, aka Miss Sledgehammer, is currently undefeated and is ranked as the top female super middleweight in the world. She is the longest reigning WBA female super middleweight champion and WBC female super middleweight champion and presently holds all of the major female super middleweight belts.

Sport: Tennis
Career Highlights: Tatiana won the 2004 French Open mixed doubles and reached the singles quarterfinal at the 2006 U.S. Open. She reached a high of number 12 on the women’s singles rankings before having to take some time off due to back issues. She also appeared in the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Sport: Figure Skating
Career Highlights: Cohen won the silver medal at the 2006 Olympic Games in Italy. She has also won medals at 3 World Championships and was the 2006 United States Champion.

Sport: Swimming
Career Highlights: Coughlin is the first American female athlete to win 6 medals in one Olympics and the first woman ever to win a gold medal in the 100 Meter Backstroke in two straight Olympic Games. She has won a total of 48 medals in the Olympics, the World, and the Pan Pacific Championships. She also appeared in the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

60 Michelle Wie
Sport: Golf
Career Highlights: Wie is the youngest player to ever qualify for a USGA amateur championship, the youngest winner of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links, the youngest to qualify for a LPGA Tour event, the youngest player to make an LPGA cut, and the first female golfer to qualify for a USGA national men’s tournament.

Career Highlights: Tom, an indoor as well as beach volleyball player, has competed in three Olympic Games: the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the 2004 Athens Olympics and 2008 Beijing Olympics. In Beijing, Tom won a silver medal at the Beijing Games and was named Best Scorer for the tournament.

Career Highlights: Hantuchova is only the fifth female tennis player to have won the mixed doubles title in all four Grand Slam tournaments during her career. Career Highlights: Amanda Beard is a seven-time Olympic medalist, a former world record holder in the 200-meter breaststroke, and a two-time American Swimmer of the Year Award winner. She has won a total of twenty-one medals in major international competition. She also appeared in the 2006 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and the July 2007 issue of Playboy magazine.

Career Highlights: Schmitz, from Salto do Lontra, Brazil, won the Billabong Pro Junior title in 2003, making her the youngest athlete to win a professional event in Brazil. In 2011, she also modeled for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

54 Alona Bondarenko
Sport: Tennis
Career Highlights: Ukrainian tennis player Alona Bondarenko defeated the then number one ranked player in the world Jelena Jankovic in the 2010 Australian Open and won the 2008 Australian Open women’s doubles tournament. Her career high singles ranking of number 19 came in 2008.

53 Nikki Garrett
Sport: Golf
Career Highlights: Australian golfer Nikki Garret plays on the Ladies European Tour where she has won two tournaments. She was also named the 2006 Ryder Cup Wales Rookie of the Year.

52 Victoria Pendleton
Sport: Cycling
Career Highlights: Pendleton won a gold medal in the Women’s Sprint at the 2005 World Championships, won a silver medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in the 500m Time Trial as well as a gold in the Sprint, and at the 2008 Beijing Olympics she won the gold medal in the Women’s Individual Sprint Event.

Career Highlights: Russian professional golfer, Maria Verchenova, is the first Russian to ever become a full-time member of the Ladies European Tour. She has 2 top 10 finishes so far on the tour. She is a 2-time Russian Amateur Champion, Austrian Amateur Champion, Latvian Amateur Champion, and Slovenian Amateur Champion.

Sport: Track and Field
Career Highlights: Arron is the fourth fastest woman ever over 100 meters and holds the European record for that event. She has won the gold medal in the 4×100 relay at the 2003 Paris World Championships and a bronze at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

Sport: Golf
Career Highlights: Creamer has won 11 tournaments, including 9 LPGA Tour and has been ranked as high as number 2 in the Women’s World Golf Rankings. She is also the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open champion and was the youngest and quickest player to reach $1 million in LPGA career earnings.

Career Highlights: Golic has been called the “Anna Kournikova of table tennis” which is due to her relative lack of success yet tremendous notoriety due to her looks as she was named one of the “Sexiest Women in Sports” by ESPN in 2005. She was, however, a US National Collegiate Champion in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles & Team, all in 2003.

Career Highlights: In 2000 Abudo was the runner up for the world title on the World Championship Tour where she has achieved multiple tour victories. She also finished fifth overall on the tour in 2005.

Sport: Golf
Career Highlights: Coffing appeared as a cast member of Big Break Sandals Resorts on the Golf Channel in 2010. She finished as the series champion. She also played on the Duramed Futures Tour in 2011.

45 Julia Mancuso
Sport: Alpine Skiing
Career Highlights: Mancuso won the gold medal in the giant slalom at the 2006 Winter Olympics and the silver medal in both the downhill and combined at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Those three medals make her the most decorated female American alpine skier in Olympic history. She has also won four medals at the World Championships.

Career Highlights: Tostado is the first Spanish gymnast to ever compete in two Olympic finals, and the only rhythmic gymnast to make the finals at four consecutive Olympic Games. She also holds a modelling contract with Nike and she has done work modeling for an underwear store.

Sport: Swimming
Career Highlights: Rice, from Australia, is the current record-holder in the 400 meter women’s individual medley, and won three gold medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

40 Alicia Sacramone
Sport: Gymnastics
Career Highlights: Sacramone has won 17 medals at the US National Championships including 8 gold medals. She has also won 10 medals, including 4 golds at the World Championships, making her the most decorated U.S. gymnast ever in those events. Sacramone also won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She also appeared nude in ESPN the Magazine’s 2011 “Body Issue.”

39 Kristi Leskinen
Sport: Freestyle Skiing
Career Highlights: Leskinen won a bronze medal in the Women’s Superpipe at Winter X Games IX in 2005. She is also the first woman ever to pull a rodeo 720 and appeared on the reality show The Superstars in 2009.

38 Laisa Andrioli
Sport: Soccer
Career Highlights: Androli is a member of the Brazilian national soccer team. In 2007 her squad took 2nd place in the World Cup. She has also posed nude.

Sport: Freestyle Skiing
Career Highlights: Schnoor participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics finishing 9th in the Women’s Aerials event. Her best World Cup finish was an eighth place finish in 2007. She also appeared in the 2010 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

36 Gretchen Bleiler
Sport: Snowboarding
Career Highlights: Bleiler has won 4 gold medals and 1 silver medal in the Superpipe event at the Winter X Games as well as a silver medal in the Halfpipe event at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics. She won more Halfpipe events in 2003, 2005 and 2006 than any other female snowboarder in the world. She also appeared nude on the cover and inside in ESPN the Magazine’s “Body Issue.”

Career Highlights: Jones won 3 NCAA titles and earned 11 All-American honors while in college at LSU. She also won indoor national titles three times in the 60 meter hurdles, and earned gold medals at the World Indoor Championship twice. Career Highlights: Gulbis’ sole LPGA tournament victory came in 2007 at the Evian Masters, but she has also played on 3 U.S. Solheim Cup championship teams. Her highest finish in a major is a tie for third at the 2007 Kraft Nabisco Championship. She also appeared in the 2012 edition of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

33 Nastia Liukin
Sport: Gymnastics
Career Highlights: Liukin is the 2008 Olympic Individual All-Around Champion, the 2005 and 2007 World Champion on the balance beam, and the 2005 World Champion on the uneven bars. She has 9 total World Championships medals, tying her for second all-time. Liukin is also a 4-time All-Around U.S. National Champion having won twice as a junior and twice as a senior.

32 Allyson Felix
Sport: Track and Field
Career Highlights: Felix, who competes in the 100, 200 and 400 meter events, is a two-time Olympic silver medalist at the 200 meter distance. She also won an Olympic gold medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics as a member of the United States’ Women’s 4 x 400 meters team.

Career Highlights: At age 16, Ashley won the Professional Surf Tour of America and holds a win in the North Shore Soap Factory Pipeline Women’s Pro event. In 2005, PETA named her the “Sexiest Vegetarian Alive” and she has also appeared in the men’s magazine FHM.

Sport: Volleyball
Career Highlights: Indoor volleyball player Kim Glass won a silver medal as part of Team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2011.

Career Highlights: Ivanovic held the number 1 ranking in 2008, won the 2008 French Open, and finished second at the 2007 French Open and the 2008 Australian Open. Career Highlights: Carano, the former number 3 ranked 145-pound female fighter in the world, holds a career MMA record of 7-1 with 3 wins via knockout and 1 by submission. I’m not sure if this bikini photo shoot of Leryn Franco is new or not, but I know how much guys spaz out when they see a female athlete in a bikini so I figured I’d share it with you. Well, that and she’s a really, really hot athlete in a bikini. Actually even if she wasn’t an athlete I’d probably have shared this with you. Yes, this is pretty much my inner monologue when deciding which news and pictures of famous women to share with you on a daily basis. Riveting, isn’t it?

Hottie Leryn Franco competed in the Pan-Am games despite a scare with swine flu

Leryn Franco, the Paraguayan javelin thrower who set the internet ablaze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, recently competed at the Pan-Am games in Guadalajara. Her showing wasn’t spectacular, placing 13th out of 15 competitors, but she had a reasonably good explanation for the poor performance.

Franco was hospitalized for ten days after a bout with swine flu and acute pharyngitis according to Terra Deportes.

I came here with the probability of not compete because the liver disease affected me. I had made three previous checks and worse. Even so I asked to come because a month ago had made the Paraguayan record 56 meters,” said Franco the journalists.

“They gave me the opportunity to recover here and I recovered more mentally than physically. Emotionally I felt good, you always have faith and one sometimes thinks that enough,” said the Paraguayan.

(That’s one of those Spanish-English translations from Google so my apologies if it’s not grammatically correct.)

Despite the lackluster effort, Franco still intends to compete at the London Olympics next summer. Judging from her career best throw of 56 meters however, it’s not enough to put her in contention for a metal. The current world record stands at 72.28 from Barbora Špotáková of the Czech Republic.

Nope, just hard working women who sweat day in and day out to be the best they can be.

25 Jelena Dokic

At one time, Jelena Dokic was ranked as high as #4 in the world. But she fell on tough times more than four years ago and has struggled to get her game back into form. She did however finish last year in the top 100 and earlier this year defeated French Open champion Francesca Schiavone. I think everyone would agree that they’d love to see more of Jelena Dokic on the women’s circuit.

24 Erika Prezerakou

This Greek bombshell initially broke into the athletic scene as a successful pole vaulter. Soon, someone realized that her assets should probably be flaunted outside of the track and field arena and put her on the Greek version of Dancing with the Stars. And frankly, why not. With those long legs and uh, rather voluptuous figure, she’s a star in the making.

23 Julia Mancuso

Julia Mancuso was a successful skier well before the Vancouver Olympics, but the 2012 games certainly made her a household name. Having won gold at the Giant Slalom in Turin in 2008, Mancuso followed that up with two silvers in Vancouver. She also, hilariously has an underwear line called “Kiss my Tiara”. Adorable and a sense of humor–good combination.

22Miesha Tate

When you think of sexy sports, MMA probably doesn’t come to mind. Women beating on each other mercilessly in an octagon isn’t exactly what most men dream of. But girls like Miesha Tate make you think otherwise. Not only is she the current Freestyle Cage Fighting Women’s Bantamweight Champion but she’s also won a silver medal at the FILA Grappling Championships. That’s well beyond KY Jelly and mud wrestling isn’t it?

21 Serena Williams

Perhaps no woman’s body on this list is more controversial than Serena Williams. Ask a dozen men what they think and you’ll get differing opinions from each one. When she shows up in a bikini on Miami beach, it’s quite stunning to say the least. There’s only so much fabric one can have on a two piece to hold back a behind as large and as in charge as hers. She’s been out of the game for awhile but a comeback is in the works this summer.

20 Gina Carano

Gina Carano is easily one of the famous names in MMA, be it male or female. At a weigh-in for a fight in 2008, people wondered if Carano could make weight. After a few attempts with her clothes on, Carano just decided the hell with it and stripped down to nothing. Unfortunately for the viewing audience, everything was hidden behind a towel but men everywhere became infatuated with her after the show. Like Serena, she’s been out of the game for awhile but is making her triumphant return to the ring in June.

19 Alicia Sacramone

Alicia Sacramone is one of the most recognized names in women’s gymnastics today. After she was blamed by many for the U.S. team losing the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Sacramone decided to call it quits. But the retirement was only temporary as she returned from shoulder surgery in 2009. With a gold at the World Championships on the vault in 2010, it’s safe to say Sacramone is intending on staying in the sport to make another Olympic run in two years.

18Doris Vrecko

The name Doris Vrecko probably doesn’t ring any bells does it? Doris is a Croatian fencing champion and a very good one at that. In fact, she’s been the best at her sport in the country ten times. Say what you will about fencing not exactly being a popular sport, when you’re the best of the best that many times, it’s impressive. She mostly does broadcasting these days but still remains an active fencer.

17 Yelena Isinbayeva

Isinbayeva is arguably one of the best pole vaulters of all-time. She’s the reigning Olympic champion having won gold at Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008. On a side note, it really is incredible how “fit” the women in pole vaulting are. We’ve already shown you Greek hottie Erika Prezerakou and who can forget Cal vaulter Allison Stokke, who lit the internet on fire just a few years ago. Truly a hidden gem of extremely curvaceous and attractive women.

16 Ana Ivanovic

The up and down career of Ana Ivanovic is currently in the latter stage right now. She’s been as high as #1 in 2008 but currently sits at #17 in the world. Although she has 10 WTA titles, she has only won once at a Grand Slam event defeating Dinara Safina at the French Open in 2008. Ivanovic has had numerous other chances but surprisingly has played bad in Grand Slam finals. That aside, she’s one of the famous athletes in Serbia and easily, one of it’s sexiest.

15 Bruna Schmitz

Surfing is not exactly a very popular sport here in the mainland so the name Bruna Schmitz probably won’t elicit any kind of response from you. But remember the name as Schmitz quietly moves up the rankings on the ASP Women’s World Tour. More importantly, (for the viewing audience that is), Schmitz was one of the lovely ladies of this past Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. Certainly one of the few times a surfer has been featured in the coveted issue.

14 Carolina Salgado

Evidently you can’t have a list like “best booties in sports today” and not include at least one Brazilian beach volleyball player. Carolina Salgado has a rich volleyball background as both her sister and mother had successful careers on the beach. Salgado won gold at the 2004 FIVB Under-18 World Championships and expects to compete for a medal at the next Olympics.

13 Natalie Gulbis

Years ago, Natalie Gulbis was labeled as the Anna Kournikova of golf. A great talent but more or less a sex symbol. She certainly didn’t help her cause when she came out with a racy swimsuit calendar prior to the 2004 U.S. Open. But she’s changed all that in the last few years and seems much more focused on golf. Her first and only career win came in 2007 at the Evian Masters. She’s been in a bit of slump lately but regularly finishes in the top 25 on the LPGA money list.

12 Caroline Wozniacki

The current #1 female ranked tennis player in the world, Caroline Wozniacki is a favorite here on Guyism. Whether it’s her stunning and rather short Stella McCartney outfit at last year’s U.S. Open or her crazy stories about kangaroos attacking her in Australia, Wozniacki finds a way to make headlines. She has yet to breakthrough at a Grand Slam event, but most people believe it’s just a matter of time.

11 Laisa Andrioli

Laisa Andrioli is a Brazilian soccer player who plays on the national team. Trust me, that may not seem like a big thing here in the States, but playing nationally for your team in Brazil is a pretty big deal. Especially given the fierce competition on the women’s side. Though Andrioli makes her living as a soccer player, she also does some modeling on the side. Some may recognize her from a nude Sexy magazine spread in 2008. We’ll let you do the digging yourself, but suffice it to say, it’s best you do the digging when your significant other is not around.

10 Anastasia Ashley

Admittedly, we don’t know much about Anastasia Ashley outside of the fact that she’s considered one of the hottest female surfers around. We do know however that she’s a vegetarian and was nominated by PETA as one of the Sexiest Vegeterians alive. Although we’re not on the up and up with our MTV watching these days, last year, the World of Jenks documented her life for a week. If you’re a new fan like we are, we suggest scouring the internet to find it.

9 Elena Dementieva

We know we said we wouldn’t put retired athletes on here, but in the world of women’s tennis, retirements are essentially just reasons to take extended vacations. Just ask Justine Henin or Kim Clijsters. That aside, Elena Dementieva is a two-time Grand Slam finalist and famously won gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. There are already rumors that she’s making a comeback and at 29, probably still has a few good years of tennis left in her. But admittedly, the rigors of the tennis tour has taken a toll on many athletes bodies and a rest would probably do her some good.

8 Lindsey Vonn

Lindsey Vonn is everywhere these days. In what usually amounts to 15 minutes of fame for athletes after the Olympics (Apollo Ohno and Michael Phelps), Vonn has somehow turned it into a several year stint. And as fans, we welcome it. She’s had extreme success as as Alpine skier and is widely considered one of the best in the world. Aside from that, she recently did a hilarious spoof of Sharon Stone’s famous upskirt scene in Basic Instinct for ESPN. Worth a look or two.

7 Hannah Teter

You may remember Hannah Teter from her 2010 sexy spread in Sports Illustrated. The snowboarder, however, wants to be known for much more than her work on the halfpipe. Teter is extremely focused on charity work, specifically in Africa. Her newest initiative is called “Sweet Cheeks” which donates more than 40% of underwear sales to partner organization Children International to help feed children living in extreme poverty around the world.

6 Michelle Waterson

Probably the coolest thing about Michelle Waterson is that her nickname is “The Karate Hottie”. She has an 8-3 record as an MMA fighter but most people remember her as as a contestant on the Muay Thai-themed Fight Girls reality show on Oxygen. She’s stepped away from the ring recently to have a baby, but like others on the list, is making a comeback in the near future.

5 Maria Sharapova

What’s there to say about Maria Sharapova that hasn’t already been said. Last year, when word leaked out that she was engaged to NBA guard Sasha Vujacic, every man around the world collectively shed a tear. She’s widely considered the sexiest woman in tennis and one of the hottest female athletes in the world. Sharapova has struggled with a shoulder injury the last few years that has limited her on the courts but a recent coaching swamp in 2011 may help regain that #1 ranking she so desperately seeks again.

4 Alana Blanchard

Of the surfers on our list, Blanchard’s name is probably the most recognizable. And as hot as she is and as much success as she has had worldwide, her most famous feat has literally nothing to do with surfing. Blanchard helped rescue surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost an arm during a shark attack in 2003. It was Blanchard, along with her father and brother who got Hamilton to shore and somehow saved her after the loss of almost 3 liters of blood. Truly, the sexiest humanitarian on our list.

3 Leryn Franco

When the camera panned to Leryn Franco during the opening games of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, it literally caused a movement in the jeans of every heterosexual male in the world. The Paraguayan javelin thrower and model is everywhere now, regularly appearing in photoshoots and magazines every few months. We’ve yet to hear if she’ll be around for London in 2012, but we can tell you that we pray to God every night that she does.

2 Brittany Johnson

Brittany Johnson goes to TWU (Texas Women’s University) and is the current USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate all-around champion. In laymen’s terms, Johnson is one of the best gymnasts in the world right now. Unfortunately we don’t know much else about Johnson, but frankly who cares. She’s hot, she has an incredible body and is awesome at the sport she competes in. That’s enough for us.

1 Misty May-Treanor

We’re absolutely infatuated with Misty May-Treanor (although, we’re slightly upset we have to hyphenate her name now). May-Treanor is the most successful beach volleyball player of all-time with 107 career wins. Along with her playing partner Kerri Walsh, the two have combined to win gold at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. But more importantly, May-Treanor has arguably the most famous posterior, regardless of sport. It helps that her employment requires a skimpy bikini.

So the Olympics went out like a lamb this past weekend. It was a fun ride that shall soon be forgotten (by like Wednesday), but what of Ms. Leryn Franco? Where do we find her in the future?

I know she is into the javelin and all, but she kind of blew at the Games, so maybe a future career in nude modeling should be in her future?? I mean she is from Paraguay and all, what the hell else is she going to do with her life?

About a week ago, the internet was abuzz about a hot Paraguayan Olympian named Leryn Franco. Every blogger worth a darn got an erection while searching for photos of her.

But alas, it seems that Franco’s Olympic run is already over as she pumped out an awful performance in her event, the Javelin.

In fact, she threw 12 meters below her personal best.

I’m guessing Franco doesn’t really care at this point as she is more concerned with her modeling career.

Leryn was runner-up in the Miss Paraguay and Miss Bikini Universe Pageant in 2006.
