The win gave Kvitova her first ever Grand Slam title and only the 5th overall on the WTA tour. She also became the first female lefty to win at the All-England Club since Martina Navratilova.

After the match, Kvitova was taken into the clubhouse and shown the winners plaque with her name already inscribed. Naturally, she was stunned at the speed at which this was done and dropped this epic F-bomb in shock.

It got so bad that the All England Lawn and Tennis Club chief executive Ian Ritchie commented on it.

“I think there is an education problem with younger players. And certainly (in) my postbag … if you say ‘what do you get most letters about,’ I would say that grunting is high up,” he said.
“We are aware, whether you are watching it on TV or here, people don’t particularly like it,” Ritchie added. “We are one tournament in a global circuit. But we have made our views clear and we would like to see less of it.”

There seems to be no action from tennis’ governing body for grunting (as of yet), but as far as TV spectators in Britain are concerned, the BBC may have found a solution. Meet Wimbledon NextMix, a gadget that allows you to filter out the sound of players shrieks.

Available on the BBC Radioplayer over the internet it has a sliding scale which the tennis fan can use to alter the contrast between the commentators and the sounds coming from the court.

The launch of the product, which is free to download, comes just days after the head of Wimbledon said that female tennis players who grunt too loudly are putting off their opponents and spoiling the games for the spectators.

Rupert Brun, the head of technology for the BBC’s audio and music department, said that they had come up with the new player after receiving lots of complaints from listeners about the sound balance when listening to sports matches on the radio.

With a gold at the World Championships on the vault in 2010, it’s safe to say Sacramone is intending on staying in the sport to make another Olympic run in two years.

The name Doris Vrecko probably doesn’t ring any bells does it? Doris is a Croatian fencing champion and a very good one at that. In fact, she’s been the best at her sport in the country ten times. Say what you will about fencing not exactly being a popular sport, when you’re the best of the best that many times, it’s impressive. She mostly does broadcasting these days but still remains an active fencer.

Isinbayeva is arguably one of the best pole vaulters of all-time. She’s the reigning Olympic champion having won gold at Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008. On a side note, it really is incredible how “fit” the women in pole vaulting are. We’ve already shown you Greek hottie Erika Prezerakou and who can forget Cal vaulter Allison Stokke, who lit the internet on fire just a few years ago. Truly a hidden gem of extremely curvaceous and attractive women.

The up and down career of Ana Ivanovic is currently in the latter stage right now. She’s been as high as #1 in 2008 but currently sits at #17 in the world. Ivanovic has had numerous other chances but surprisingly has played bad in Grand Slam finals. That aside, she’s one of the famous athletes in Serbia and easily, one of it’s sexiest.

Surfing is not exactly a very popular sport here in the mainland so the name Bruna Schmitz probably won’t elicit any kind of response from you. But remember the name as Schmitz quietly moves up the rankings on the ASP Women’s World Tour. More importantly, (for the viewing audience that is), Schmitz was one of the lovely ladies of this past Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. Certainly one of the few times a surfer has been featured in the coveted issue.

Evidently you can’t have a list like “best booties in sports today” and not include at least one Brazilian beach volleyball player. Carolina Salgado has a rich volleyball background as both her sister and mother had successful careers on the beach. Salgado won gold at the 2004 FIVB Under-18 World Championships and expects to compete for a medal at the next Olympics.

Years ago, Natalie Gulbis was labeled as the Anna Kournikova of golf. A great talent but more or less a sex symbol. She certainly didn’t help her cause when she came out with a racy swimsuit calendar prior to the 2004 U.S. Open. But she’s changed all that in the last few years and seems much more focused on golf. Her first and only career win came in 2007 at the Evian Masters. She’s been in a bit of slump lately but regularly finishes in the top 25 on the LPGA money list.

She has yet to breakthrough at a Grand Slam event, but most people believe it’s just a matter of time.

Trust me, that may not seem like a big thing here in the States, but playing nationally for your team in Brazil is a pretty big deal. Especially given the fierce competition on the women’s side. Though Andrioli makes her living as a soccer player, she also does some modeling on the side. Some may recognize her from a nude Sexy magazine spread in 2008. We know we said we wouldn’t put retired athletes on here, but in the world of women’s tennis, retirements are essentially just reasons to take extended vacations. Just ask Justine Henin or Kim Clijsters. That aside, Elena Dementieva is a two-time Grand Slam finalist and famously won gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. There are already rumors that she’s making a comeback and at 29, probably still has a few good years of tennis left in her. But admittedly, the rigors of the tennis tour has taken a toll on many athletes bodies and a rest would probably do her some good.

Lindsey Vonn is everywhere these days. In what usually amounts to 15 minutes of fame for athletes after the Olympics (Apollo Ohno and Michael Phelps), Vonn has somehow turned it into a several year stint. And as fans, we welcome it. She’s had extreme success as as Alpine skier and is widely considered one of the best in the world. Aside from that, she recently did a hilarious spoof of Sharon Stone’s famous upskirt scene in Basic Instinct for ESPN. Worth a look or two.

You may remember Hannah Teter from her 2010 sexy spread in Sports Illustrated. The snowboarder, however, wants to be known for much more than her work on the halfpipe. Teter is extremely focused on charity work, specifically in Africa. And as hot as she is and as much success as she has had worldwide, her most famous feat has literally nothing to do with surfing. Blanchard helped rescue surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost an arm during a shark attack in 2003. It was Blanchard, along with her father and brother who got Hamilton to shore and somehow saved her after the loss of almost 3 liters of blood. Truly, the sexiest humanitarian on our list.

When the camera panned to Leryn Franco during the opening games of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, it literally caused a movement in the jeans of every heterosexual male in the world. Brittany Johnson goes to TWU (Texas Women’s University) and is the current USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate all-around champion. In laymen’s terms, Johnson is one of the best gymnasts in the world right now. Unfortunately we don’t know much else about Johnson, but frankly who cares. She’s hot, she has an incredible body and is awesome at the sport she competes in. That’s enough for us.

We’re absolutely infatuated with Misty May-Treanor (although, we’re slightly upset we have to hyphenate her name now). May-Treanor is the most successful beach volleyball player of all-time with 107 career wins. Bethanie Mattek-Sands isn’t a great player. You won’t find her making deep runs into tournaments and in fact, she doesn’t have any WTA titles to her credit. What she does have, however, is a great eye for what really distracts people away from her otherwise poor play. Her leopard print outfit has been worn not once, but twice at the U.S. Open.

Truly, we feel bad making fun of kids. Yes, the occasional “Charlie bit my finger” video is amusing, but in general, laughing at the expense of those under 18 isn’t our thing. When you’re on top of the tennis world, you can pretty much do anything you want. World #1 Caroline Wozniacki even joked about getting beat up by a kangaroo earlier this year with the Australian media. Last year, her tennis skirt from Stella McCartney rode up so high during the U.S. Open that at times, when Wozniacki dove for balls on the court, it more or less resembled some kind of voyeur tennis match. Not that there’s anything wrong with that of course.

Sharapova claimed she wanted to try a different look for the Russian magazine version of Tattler, but the cover itself shows Sharapova in granny panties.There’s really no other way to describe it–it looks like something out of a “Little House on the Prairie” episode. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, because as a horny adolescent, Melissa Gilbert did tickle my fancy.

But that’s a whole other story between a young boy, some tube socks, and some private time in an upstairs lavatory.

Back to Sharapova–we’re not going to complain too much here because the photos on the inside of the mag are actually rather flattering. Although, I think we can all admit she’s far overdue for another bikini spread sometime in the near future. If she’s not going to win on the tennis court, she might as well sex it up as much as she can. It kept fellow Russian Anna Kournikova in the spotlight much longer than she ever deserved.

The teams head to Texas for game three but not before a travel day in between. The Rangers, somehow, need to figure out a way to jump start that anemic offense because, for all intents and purposes, Saturday just became a must-win situation.

Sasha Vujacic, who just got engaged to tennis hottie Maria Sharapova, may find himself out of the Lakers rotation. Shannon Brown seems to have improved his outside shot over the summer and is a much better defensive option for the Lakers. Coach Phil Jackson is riding the fence on the issue, “It’s real tough to play five guards, we know that. He knows that. All our guards know it”. But don’t feel too bad for Sasha, he still has Maria and 5.5 million dollars this year to cash in.

You could probably argue that Tony Dungy should have won another Super Bowl in his tenure with the Colts. What you can’t argue with was his consistency. In six straight seasons as head coach, the Colts won at least 12 games. This weekend, Dungy, among others, will be part of the Colts Ring of Honor ceremony.

After trailing 21-7 at halftime to FSU, N.C. State mounted a furious comeback in the second half that culminated in a Russell Wilson touchdown pass to George Bryan with 2:40 left. Instead of kicking a field goal to tie the game on 4th down, the Wolfpack opted to go for it from the 1-inch line. The decision proved to be the right one as the play action caught the Seminoles off guard and Bryan found himself alone in the back of the end zone.

John Wall probably hoped his first game as a pro would go a bit better than last night’s affair with the Magic. Orlando jumped out to a huge lead early and Wall’s play amounted to mop-up garbage time. In fairness, he looked solid in 35 minutes of play, although, 6-19 from the field isn’t going to cut it most nights. He chipped in with nine assists and three steals as well.

Before finally winning last night, the Padres had spent the better part of the last week and a half on a miserable 10 game losing streak. During the streak, the Padres managed to score a paltry 23 runs. And yet, after all that, the Padres still find themselves in first place. Hooray parity!
