It appears that Magic center Dwight Howard will earn his third consecutive Defensive Player of the Year honors from the NBA. The first time in history it has gone to someone that many years in a row. Howard dominates to defensive glass during games but also makes it near impossible for guards to penetrate into the lane and get shots off. His 2.3 blocks per game were second only to Andrew Bogut. Oh and he gets 1.3 steals a game to boot. Much deserving award for the big man.

Despite losing star point guard Tony Parker for a few weeks, things are looking on the up and up for the San Antonio Spurs. After last night’s win against the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers, the Spurs reached the 50-win plateau yet again during Gregg Popovich’s tenure as coach. Time and time again, Pop has reiterated that he’d like to rest players down the stretch so they’re fresh for a deep playoff run. Parker may hinder that a little but if they can get a big enough lead, I don’t see guys like Tim Duncan suiting up the last week of the season.

Now, the Pistons are undoubtedly not world beaters but the Cavs are absolute junk. In reality, their roster might be the worst in the league history. In the biggest rivalry in college basketball, Duke stormed back from a 14-point deficit to defeat North Carolina, 79-73. The Blue Devils miraculously scored 50 points in the second half to just 30 for the Tar Heels. One of the biggest differences in the game was the 3-pt line. The company suspended the security guard indefinitely and says his views do not reflect those of the company.

While I can’t say I know anything about this company’s beliefs, I find it kind of hard to believe that a mall security guard is acting independently fighting against gay rights. Then again, I suppose you don’t rise to the prestigious title of mall security guard without ambition and a strong sense of self.

It appears that the 13th Grand Slam win for Serena Williams was unlucky. After winning Wimbledon earlier this year, Williams was celebrating with some friends when she “allegedly” stepped on glass. The injury required surgery and she has yet to step on the court since then. Let me introduce to possibly the toughest man in college football. 293 pound Greg Nosal of Virginia Tech lost the tip of his finger during a game Saturday. When he realized something had happened, he ran over to the sideline to tell the trainer. After a medical evaluation revealed that his freaking bone was sticking out, doctors wanted to reattach it then and there. But Nosal, he had other plans. He played all the way into the 4th quarter before finally yielding and getting the surgery done.

Color me shocked folks–a man named Adam Jones got in trouble with the law. Thankfully for Adam “Pacman” Jones of the Cincinnati Bengals, it wasn’t him. Despite Brett Favre’s best efforts, his Minnesota Vikings fell to 1-3 on the season after losing to the Jets last night. Favre’s 264 yards and 3 touchdowns were crucial in the comeback but his interception with 1:30 to play proved to be costly. Dwight Lowery returned for a touchdown and sealed the win. The North Carolina Medical Board says doctors and interns at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center attempted to induce labor on a patient, but when that didn’t work, they performed a cesarean section only to find out there was no baby.

The incident happened in November 2008, but the state medical board spent the past year reviewing the case. In January, they issued the two doctors involved letters of concern.

“And so she said she did an ultrasound and she said no heart beat,” [one of the doctors working with the patient, Dr.] Geszler said. “So [the patient] convinced the resident that she wanted to be induced at Cape Fear Valley, so the resident said can I induce here and I said okay.”

According to the medical board, the initial diagnosis was made by healthcare providers without the necessary experience to make the appropriate diagnosis.

The patient was actually suffering from pseudocyesis, symptoms associated with pregnancy even though they are not pregnant. The false pregnancy can be caused by changes in the body and hormones, emotional distress or an endocrine disorder.

I’m no medical doctor, but that diagnosis of “pseudocyesis” sounds a whole lot like my layman’s definition of “Dat bitch is crazy.” And I made that determination without stirrups or a stethoscope. In your face, Dr. McDreamy.

At the same time, you kind of have to feel bad for this lady. She clearly thought she was pregnant. One would think that would lead to you getting a sonogram, but what do I know? It’s probably for the best that she didn’t find out like that. I can’t imagine the awkwardness you’d feel when you go to a doctor over a sonogram and, upon looking inside, all you can see in the womb is a bunch of closed down shops, an abandoned Dodge Dart, and a rolling tumbleweed. A freshman at Duke who had been camped out waiting for basketball tickets was diagnosed Tuesday with meningococcal meningitis, WRAL news reports.

The student is being treated at Duke Hospital. The student’s roommates and the students she had been camping in a tent with in “Krzyzewskiville” waiting for tickets to the North Carolina game, are being treated with antibiotics as a precaution, officials said.

So at what point is getting tickets for this rivalry going too far?
