That being said, McCoy was still in serious pain and walked off the field grabbing his junk. Simultaneously, and completely unbeknownst to him, Jon Gruden was in the booth admiring his “stuff.”

Michael Vick’s incredible MVP-like season came to a screeching halt with an interception in the end zone yesterday as his Eagles lost the Packers 21-16. Vick’s counterpart, Aaron Rodgers was near perfect in a game he had to be with 180 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. The Packers move on to play the Falcons next week in what should be an extremely tough match-up as Atlanta rarely loses at home.

41

The other NFL playoff game yesterday was beyond terrible depending on what side of the fence you fall on. If you are a Ravens fan, it was a dominating performance for a team that was head and shoulders better than their opponent. If you are a Chiefs fan, well, you realized your team has a long way to go. Outside of Jamal Charles’ 41-yard touchdown, Kansas City was barely competitive losing 30-7 at home.

78

In what will probably be a growing theme as long as they play together, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade combined for 78 of their team’s 107 points en route to a clutch overtime win over the Portland Trailblazers 107-100. James chipped in with 44 of his own but it was his 11 points in the extra frame that really left several, including his teammates speechless. “I am a fan of his on the court and I am just glad I get to experience this in the same jersey he wears, instead of being on the other end”, said Wade.

15

The big NBA trade rumor floating around for the last day or two involves none other than Carmelo Anthony going to the New Jersey Nets. At first, weeks ago, this deal seemed dead. However, now the Nets and the Nuggets have included the Detroit Pistons in the deal and sources are saying as many as 15 players could be swapped when it is all said and done. Personally, I think it falls through as these things rarely, if ever, come to fruition.

In perhaps one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history, the Philadelphia Eagles stormed back from a 21-point deficit with seven minutes remaining against the New York Giants to win the game. It was capped off by this miraculous punt return for a touchdown by DeSean Jackson. Why the Giants didn’t kick it out of bounds was the talk of many analysts after the game.

Regardless, the return itself was the first time in NFL history a game had ended in regulation like that. A “walk-off” punt return if you please.

Not to be outdone though, Patriots offensive lineman Dan Connolly took a short squib kick against the Packers 71-yards and almost got in for a touchdown. Truly, one of the most exciting and most hilarious moments I can recall in an NFL game. Whether you are a Patriots fan or not, you were definitely rooting for the 313-pound big man to get into the end zone.

3.82

In a most surprising move, the Milwaukee Brewers made a trade that sent pitching prospects, shortstop Alcides Escobar, and outfielder Lorenzo Cain for Royals pitching phenom Zack Greinke. Many had thought Greinke would end up in a more prominent spot, perhaps in Texas or Detroit. But the Brewers were the team most willing to part with prospects and a team that Greinke couldn’t veto a trade with.

313

Earlier in Sunday’s NFL action, DeSean Jackson returned a punt as time expired giving the Eagles an incredible comeback win over the Giants. It was the first time in NFL history that a punt had been returned for a TD in regulation with no time remaining. Needless to say it was the biggest play in Sunday’s game…..until Dan Connolly came around. The 313-pound offensive linemen did the unthinkable, returning a kickoff 71 yards to the Packers 4-yard line. Even if you hate the Patriots like I do, it was one of the best football moments you’ll ever see.

88

Connecticut women’s basketball coach Gene Auriemma calls those rooting against his team “miserable people”. Apparently, you aren’t allowed to root for the underdog anymore. Auriermma’s team has dominated the college landscape for the better part of 3 years having not lost since 2007. While many enjoy watching a team like UConn blow out their competition, I fall more into the category of, “it’s bad for the game”.

26

The UConn women’s team might be on a historical winning streak, but it was the Detroit Lions who were drawing attention from fans Sunday. After 26 straight road losses dating back to 2007, the Lions beat the Tampa Bay Bucs in overtime 23-20. The team has come close several times away from Ford Field this year, most notably week 1 when they were robbed of a victory on the now infamous “Calvin Johnson rule”. But this time, even the officials couldn’t stop the Lions or Dave Rayner’s short field goal in overtime to win it.

We’ll get to more LeBron stuff later but in case you missed the shenanigans last night, LeBron dropped 38 points in his first game back in Cleveland. The Heat ended up bombing the Cavs 108-90, and at no time was the game ever in doubt. In fact, the more pressing question became, how many fans would get arrested by the end of the contest.

The Eagles staged a 4th quarterback comeback against the Texans to win 34-24 in Thursday night action yesterday. And again, the win propelled Michael Vick into MVP talk. Coming into the season, Vick only had two 300-yard passing games his entire career. This year, he has three including his 302-yard performance against the Texans. No one knows where Vick will ultimately play next season, but it’s a good bet that he’ll be making a lot more money.

2018,2022

Soccer-loving countries Russia and Qatar will host the World Cup in 2018 and 2022 respectively. The decision came as a surprise, because, at the present time, neither are really prepared to handle such a large sporting event. Both the U.S. and England lost out on their bids, even though both were seen as safer picks in the eyes of the soccer community.

65

For only the second time in 2010, a familiar name is atop a golf event. Yes, Tiger Woods, who has arguably had the worst year of his entire life, both on and off the course, is leading the Chevron World Challenge with an opening round 65. It should be noted that there are only 18 players in the entire event, however, all 18 are ranked in the top 50. The way Tiger’s season has gone, he’ll take any win he can get, regardless of field.

90

The 90th football bust for the Michigan Wolverines was slightly more emotional than past end of the year award ceremonies. A teary-eyed Rich Rodriguez essentially begged for Michigan AD David Brandon to keep him on as coach. Though the message was not straightforward, Rodriguez led the team with a Josh Groban song, “You Raise Me Up” as players held hands. Rumors have been swirling that Michigan plans on hiring Jim Harbaugh in the near future, but thus far, the job is still Rodriguez’ through the bowl game.

We briefly touched on this yesterday, but it needs to be said again. Donovan McNabb signed a 5-year, $78 million dollar contract extension with the Redskins. At the time McNabb signed it, his QB rating was 76, and now after his less than stellar performance on Monday Night Football, it’s 75.2. You really have to wonder if that’s the largest extension ever for a guy who was once benched against the freakin Detroit Lions.

49.32

Speaking of MNF, we hope to God that Michael Vick was on your fantasy team last night. His numbers were Madden-esque–333 YDS passing, 4 TD, 80 YDS rushing, 2 TD. And no, he didn’t catch a pass yesterday, although, I’m sure he could have. In most fantasy football leagues, Vick was right around the 50 point mark.

7

The probe into cycling and more specifically, seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong continues. Investigators made their way to France for a 1999 Armstrong urine sample that tested positive for EPO. While Armstrong has always denied using banned substances, the court of public opinion has seemingly turned on him the last few months. Armstrong is a great ambassador for cancer awareness and treatment, but in the end, like everyone else, he cheated in his sport. Ok, now that we got that out of the way, let’s move on with our lives.

Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed is on the verge of being cut this week after missing his seventh field goal of the season on Sunday (68.2%). Reed, who hasn’t missed that many since the 2006 season says the Heinz Field turf is one of the reasons he’s kicked so poorly. “It’s kind of hard when you plant your foot and the hole — a piece of ground moves where the ball’s under the holder. I almost missed the ball completely”.

32

The Golden State Warriors are certainly an exciting team to watch at times, and other times, their excitement can lead to a heart attack. After leading in the first half by as much as 32 points over the Detroit Pistons, the Warriors’ offense floundered in the second frame. With 15 seconds left in the game, the Pistons actually had a chance to take the lead or tie–luckily for Warriors fan, the Pistons turned the ball over.

The economy is hitting the stripper industry pretty hard these days. Apparently, men aren’t hitting the Gentleman’s Club with quite the same regularity as the G-string divas would like. So naturally, the ladies have had to improvise and get creative in an effort to support that Ph.D they’ve been trying to get for the last 10 years.

Which brings us to the thing men love almost as much as boobies–football. If you thought that lap dance at the Cowboys game was risque, check out this stripper at a Philadelphia Eagles tailgate a few weeks ago. Language is definitely not safe for work and fortunately for everyone involved, she’s clothed (although the pasties are hard to spot).

The dialogue between the parking attendant, the stripper and the John make this video comedy gold.

Some of the better one-liners.

Stripper: “I’m trying to give him a show and stuff”
John: “Would you let me the f out of my car”
Parking Attendant: “Get outta there, you retard”
Parking Attendant 2: “Nobody wants to touch her”

She doesn’t exactly get a ringing endorsement from the tailgate crowd. Sometimes, the drive to watch your home team trumps that of a half-naked stripper throwing herself at you. By the way, I hope those were Eagles pasties…she’d probably get more clients that way.

After watching Mike Vick carve up the Lions defense on Sunday, I was sure that Andy Reid would name him the starter the following day. But Reid, was adamant in the post-game–Kevin Kolb was his guy, concussion or not.

Two days later, there’s been a dramatic change of heart. In case you hadn’t heard Reid changed his mind and announced Vick as the starter yesterday evening. And here’s the thing. Vick isn’t the starter for a week or two while Kolb heals up. No sir. Vick is the go-to guy for the rest of the year provided he stay healthy.

The Kevin Kolb era in Philly lasted all but one measly half. They say a starting quarterback can’t lose his job when he gets hurt. Well, Kolb is healthy and was actually cleared to play Sunday and somehow lost it.

Did this come out of nowhere? Perhaps. More than likely though the Eagles had been planning all along for Vick to take over at some point during the season. Pure speculation on my part but had the Eagles named Vick starter during training camp, then he would have faced more pressure from the media. It wasn’t that long ago that the quarterback found himself in a Virginia federal prison serving time for operating “Bad Newz Kennels”. Not something the local papers have forgotten. Here’s a snapshot of today’s Philadelphia Daily News

Guyism’s daily look at what’s hot in the world of sports.

40

Around 40 minutes after MSU coach Mark Dantonio beat Notre Dame on an unbelievable fake field goal in overtime, he experienced tightness in his chest. His wife, not wanting to take any chances drove him to nearby Sparrow Hospital where it was revealed that Dantonio had suffered a heart attack. A heart-stopping play both on the field and off apparently. Dantonio had surgery to block the clogged artery and is out indefinitely.

4

Last year, Brett Favre supporters claimed he had changed his game and wasn’t the “gun slinger” he once was. They certainly had the stats to back them up. Favre threw a career low 7 ints in 2009. Two games into the 2010 season, he’s already thrown 4. Probably should have just stayed home and hunted armadillos.

124.3

In the much anticipated match-up between the Jets and Patriots, one quarterback emerged with an astounding 124.3 rating. And no, it was not the man who is a 2-time Super Bowl MVP and sports Gisele Bundchen on his arm. Mark Sanchez arguably had the game of his career in the Jets win yesterday. His 3 touchdowns and 21 completions were both career highs.

57

28 years ago today, NFL players walked out for an incredible 57 days before finally returning to work. The regular season was shortened to 9 games and NBC decided to air CFL games as replacement programming during the lockout. As usual, it was the fans who were hurt the most. By God, if I have to watch this next year, I may gouge my eyes out before Thanksgiving.

.254

Tyler Colvin was having a successful rookie campaign with the Cubs. .254 average with 20 HRs and 56 RBIs. But those will be his “end of the year” statistics for 2010. Colvin was rounding third when a teammates’ splintered bat impaled near his collarbone. He was rushed to a nearby Miami hospital where he will remain for several days to prevent a collapsed lung. Needless to say, he is out for the remainder of the season.

37

Numbers of days left before the Nuggets’ regular season opens at home against Utah. Will Carmelo Anthony be on that squad? Rumors have been swirling for weeks that Anthony would be traded with Chicago as the likely destination. But thus far, the rumors have amounted to nothing.

1357

The last time Michael Vick started a game for a NFL team, Dec 31st 2006. 1357 days later, Vick led the Eagles to a 35-32 win over the Detroit Lions—and he looked good doing it. In fact, he looked like he hadn’t lost a step avoiding several sacks with his patented speed. 284 yards in the air, 37 on the ground and 2 Tds. Andy Reid says he doesn’t have a quarterback controversy on his hands, but some might beg to differ.

You know how the city of Philadelphia and Eagles fans specifically were trying to move past the whole booing Santa Claus thing, battery throwing incidents and snowball fights with visitors….

Well, this story certainly isn’t going to help their cause.

Jamie Wert said she was wearing a Dallas Cowboys football shirt with quarterback Tony Romo’s name and number on the back while walking on Spruce Street in Bethlehem.

That’s when she says she was approached by two men wearing Philadelphia Eagles jerseys.

When one of them said, “Hey, Romo,” she turned around and was struck with something that cut her face.

“I had blood running down my neck, all down the front of my shirt,” Wert told Fox 29 News. “When I came home I had to wash everything off. It was scary.”

I give this chick credit. Not only did she withstand a beating from two drunk aholes but she’s got enough pride in her team to rock a “Go Cowboys” poster outside her home.

That’s either really brave or really stupid. But, as with most fans, that line is blurred all too often.

Apparently, the staring off into space look with a frown was popular amongst losing coaches this past weekend.
I, for one, have seen it many times myself. Its called “the Lions coaches press conference face from 1999-2010″. I know, long nickname right?

As for Bill Belichick and Andy Reid, both faced similar situations over the weekend. That is to say, both their respective teams got trounced well before halftime (as we predicted).

It’ll be an interesting off-season for both these squads. New England needs some serious help on the defensive side of the ball. I mean, when Joe Flacco wins a game throwing for less than 40 yards, I’m guessing your run defense needs to be shored up a little. And while Andy Reid has already vehemently defended Donovan McNabb and said he will be the team’s QB in 2010, he’s also in the last year of his contract. Something to keep your eye on in the next few months.

While we’d love to give you in-depth analysis of each team, we’d rather just give you our predictions

Jets 24
Bengals 14

Really, I’m only predicting this because I’d love to see how Ocho Cinco reacts on twitter after they lose

Ravens 31
Patriots 10

With rumors that Randy Moss is also injured, its a wonder who Brady will even be throwing to on Sunday

Cowboys 20
Eagles 14

Really want to pick Philly here but for some reason, I see Romo finally coming through

Cardinals 23
Packers 21

Only because I’ve never picked the Packers to win a game. I have a pretty good track record

I’ll admit that most weeks I usually watch about two NFL games at a time. One on my tv and one on my computer.

But when fantasy football playoffs roll around, its a whole different ballgame. Every single guy out there that was lucky enough to make the playoffs is either glued to their blackberry checking scores or constantly hitting refresh on their league page.

Sure, its annoying as hell to the wives and girlfriends out there, but most of us are playing fantasy football for that very reason anyways.

And while there’s nothing funny about losing in the playoffs because Rashard Mendenhall’s TD got called back on a phony pass interference call (yes, that happened to me), there is something hilarious about a guy losing his pants on live TV.
