A Nepalese teen who is the size of a toddler turned 18 on Thursday and entered the record books as the world’s shortest man.

Khagendra Thapa Magar is 67.08 centimeters (26.4 inches) and weighs 6.5 kilograms (13 pounds), said Marco Frigatti, vice president of records at Guinness World Records, who flew in from London for the recognition.

The businessman who discovered him said the recognition was years in the making.

“This is the end of a journey that began four years ago,” Min Bahadur Rana said.

A senior at North Dallas High School who was born a boy but who ran for homecoming queen did not make the cut.

Andy Moreno has identified herself as female for the past year. She looks and acts like a girl.

She said that has never caused any problems for her at school. However, her bid for homecoming queen caused some controversy .

Moreno’s principal told her she had to run for homecoming king.

“Which I don’t feel comfortable with because I identify myself as a woman and not as a male, and a king is a male,” she previously told FOX 4.

This past summer, a widely read news story posed the question “How many dinosaurs could live in Central Park?” In the piece, scientists theorized that a parcel the size of Central Park might have fed several warmblooded adult sauropods, or perhaps 100 cold-blooded sauropods.

The headline grabbed the attention of Carl Mehling, who first thought the article was referencing something else — something near and dear to his heart.

But it wasn’t.

Not only did researchers find that couples with sons are more likely to stick together, unmarried pregnant couples were more likely to have shotgun weddings if the baby was going to be a boy and divorced mothers of boys are more likely to remarry and stay remarried.

“Fathers are significantly [3 percent] less likely to be living with their children if they have daughters versus sons,” they wrote in a 2007 paper on the subject. “We estimate that in any given year, roughly 52,000 first-born daughters younger than 12 years (and all their siblings) would have had a resident father if they had been boys.”

Past statistics show that adult daughters living at home reduce the household workload (which falls largely on the mother’s shoulders), while adult boys increase it, she said, so it’s possible that women can anticipate support from their daughters more so than from their sons, making them “less willing to tolerate negative behavior in a spouse.”

A black judge from western Pennsylvania rejected a plea agreement for a man accused of fighting with police during a traffic stop, saying it was “a ridiculous plea that only goes to white boys.”

The plea agreement was for a sentence of three months probation. Allegheny County Judge Joseph Williams said on Tuesday that a black defendant in that situation would not have been treated as leniently.

In court, Williams told Assistant District Attorney Brian Catanzarite that he “for some reason comes up with I think ridiculous pleas whenever it’s a young white guy,” according to The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I’m just telling you what my observation is. If this had been a black kid who did the same thing, we wouldn’t be talking about three months’ probation.”

A SERIAL drink-driver has avoided jail for crashing his motorised wheelchair into a police car while almost five times over the legal limit.

Jean-Paul Escudie, 65, faced Cairns Magistrate Court today after pleading guilty to his seventh drink-driving charge since 2005.

The court was told Escudie crashed his motorised wheelchair into an unmarked police car in the Cairns CBD on August 5 after a pub session followed by dinner and drinks with friends.

No-one was injured and the incident caused minimal damage, but he was charged with drink-driving after recording a blood-alcohol reading of 0.232 per cent.

French-born Escudie was given a six-month suspended prison sentence after passing out in a turning lane on the Captain Cook Highway in his wheelchair while more than six times over the limit in 2008.

“You were a risk to yourself rather than a risk to others,” she said.

Police in Cathedral City, Calif. are investigating a complaint from a female resident that a male officer responded to a noise complaint at her home by stripping naked and jumping into her pool, while she was in the water with two girlfriends

The homeowner said around 3:45 Wednesday morning, she and her two friends were in the pool, when her husband let the officer into the house.

She says the officer walked through a gate, and across the patio, took off his clothes, set them on a table… and got into the pool.

The woman said the police officer then “got flirty with one of her friends.”

The homeowner, who asked not to be identified, said she, her girlfriends, and her husband were all shocked by the officer’s behavior. She said the officer then got out of the pool and left, when he heard on his radio that other police were on their way after the husband called 9-1-1.

A recent N.H. Lottery winner was charged this week with attempting to purchase 100 OxyContin pills. Her arrest was part of a multi-agency undercover drug sting.

Paula Cahill, 51, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of felony drug possession, after attempting to purchase 80-milligram tablets of the potent painkiller, police said.

The N.H. Lottery Web site states Cahill purchased her lucky ticket at Gary’s Beverages on Deer Street in Portsmouth.

“Paula plans to use the money to help family members out, as well as toward her apartment,” according to the announcement. “The rest will go into CDs.”

The owners of a cookie shop that has operated for more than two decades inside the Indianapolis City Market could face eviction.

But it’s the reason behind that possible eviction that is raising provocative questions that pit the rights and moral beliefs of a business owner against the obligation of the city to do all it can to prevent discrimination and encourage tolerance.

The city is investigating whether the owner of Just Cookies engaged in discrimination last week when he cited moral objections to homosexuality as his reason for declining a customer’s request to provide rainbow-iced cookies for a “National Coming Out Day” event planned for Oct. 7 at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

“That could be grounds for taking away their stand in the market,” said Wayne Schmidt, president of the City Market Board, who said Just Cookies is on a month-to-month lease. “I’d hate to lose them, but we can’t tolerate any kind of discrimination like that.”

The princess birthday cake for a 3-year-old girl was one of the few things left untouched after a brawl that police said involved 75 people at a hall in suburban Cincinnati, Ohio.

Some 150 people were at a party at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall in Elmwood Place when the fight started early Tuesday, CNN affiliate WCPO reported. Seven police jurisdictions were called in to quell the fighting.

“When (first responding) officers arrived there, it was a pretty intense fight going on inside,” Elmwood Place Police Chief William Peskin said. “They actually had to wait until they got backup there in order to make entry because there were so many people throwing bottles and chairs, so they had to actually wait.”

Police said the hall was being rented out and the fraternal organization’s membership was not involved.

“We got caught up in a family feud,” Eagles member David Frost told CNN on Tuesday night, referring to the group that rented the Eagles’ hall for the party. “We’re embarrassed by this.”

The state attorney general’s office has prosecuted thousands of parents for failing to pay child support, but none of those has been as “outrageous” as the claims — and children — piling up for Howard Veal.

The Muskegon man has fathered 23 children with 14 women, and is more than $533,000 in arrears in his child-support payments, according to the attorney general’s office, which has been pushing a case against Veal — tied to two of those children — in Kent County Circuit Court.

“You are the poster child for irresponsibility,” [Judge] Leiber told Veal, who appeared surprised by the sentence. “You’re an insult to every responsible father who sacrifices to provide for their children.”

“I was stunned and amazed,” said Leiber of the scope of Veal’s fatherhood, and his failure to pay anything but a scant amount to most of the mothers.

A parrot that Colombian police claim was trained to act as a lookout for a drugs gang has been caged in the Caribbean coastal city of Barranquilla.

Police Commander Fredy Veloza said Lorenzo had been taught to squawk a warning as security forces approached.

“We have a parrot that, as soon as the police arrived to the street in Barranquillita, the parrot alerted the people who were there by yelling, ‘Run! Run!’ so the people would run away,” he said.

The birds were handed over to animal officials who said they have been given more than 1,000 birds trained as lookouts.

A homeowner has filed suit against a Central Pennsylvania town for making him remove the word crap from two protest signs he posted in mid July.

They read: “$10,000 TO TAKE A CRAP.”

David Kliss of East Hanover Township displayed them because he was upset that a mandated sewer tie-in would cost him thousands of dollars, according to the suit, filed with the U.S. District Court in Scranton.

About a week later, the township’s code-enforcement agency notified Kliss, who lives at 436 Pheasant Rd., that he was violating a zoning ordinance that “No Loud, Vulgar, Indecent or Obscene Advertising matter shall be displayed in any manner.”

Besides, the word crap just isn’t that offensive, said Kliss’ Kennett Square attorney, Aaron Martin.

“In my brief, I used an episode of Seinfeld from 1993, in which the word crap was used four times in 15 seconds, to demonstrate that our society does not view that word as unspeakable,” he said.

The mother of an 11-year-old boy was shocked to discover a man swimming in a hotel pool with her son was naked.

It happened at the Quality Inn & Suites off Interstate 75 in Brooksville. Hernando Sheriff’s investigators report the man, 57-year-old Gary Forro, was in the pool with the boy “in a relaxing manner with his hands over his head” when the mother noticed he had nothing on.

She immediately pulled her son from the pool and notified the hotel manager, according to the report.

The hotel manager told investigators he also saw the man naked in the pool, but using a red athletic cup to cover his genitals. When asked to put his clothes on, the report states Forro dropped the cup, again exposing himself before he was arrested at the Hampton Inn next door wearing only wet shorts.

The key to making a separate sleeping arrangement work is ensuring that both people agree to it, said relationship therapist Sarah Beck with the Family Counseling and Psychology Center in Bettendorf.

“I think all couples long for love and safety and connection,” she said. “I think the greater thing is they’re not choosing to have separate bedrooms or sleep in separate beds for the intention of creating more aloneness.”

If they hope sleeping apart will take away feelings of resentment (and exhaustion) at not being able to sleep well and to improve their relationship, they should explain that to each other, she said.

They also need to carve out special times for intimacy, and “they have to be very intentional” about it, she said. This could prove challenging, but it’s crucial to staying connected, she added.

“The biggest problem in every couple is disconnection,” Beck said. “That’s what leads us all into these destructive dances.”

A woman was Baker Acted Aug. 8 after taking a bottle of pills and attempting to gouge out her mother-in-law’s eyes during a fight, according to her Fort Walton Beach Police Department arrest report.

She was also charged with battery.

The younger woman came home just after midnight “highly intoxicated” and was started yelling for her husband. When the older woman said he wasn’t home, her daughter-in-law went upstairs.

When she came down, she announced she only had 30 minutes to live since she’d taken a bottle of pills. She then charged at the older woman and began punching, scratching and pulling her hair, the report said.

“I Whooped your momma’s (expletive),” she wrote, adding that she loved her husband and daughter and would see them “on the other side.”
