Terrell Owens no longer plays in the NFL.
Terrell Owens is unemployed.
Terrell Owens has no money.
Terrell Owens is a broken man, both physically and emotionally.

In a nutshell, that describes the GQ feature on the former wide receiver, who, from the sounds of it, has trouble getting up every morning. It’s a depressing look at what was once a proud man, now reduced to playing Arena League football.

Here’s a brief excerpt from the feature (I strongly suggest reading the whole thing):

On top of it all, a few months ago Owens says that a friend, “a guy who I’d helped when his grandmother passed,” had slowly drained one of his accounts of more than $270,000. The bank eventually returned the money, he says, but “it pretty much destroyed whatever trust in people I had left.” He never had many friends—teammates never called him to party, he says, wrongly assuming that he was “too big” to socialize—and now, “I don’t have no friends. I don’t want no friends. That’s how I feel.”

Friends may not be calling, or teams, but lawyers, a slew of them, definitely have him on speed dial. Especially those who represent the four women to whom he pays a total of $44,600 a month in child support for his four children, ages 5 to 12: “If there’s anything I’m sorry about, it’s getting involved with all that.” He never actually dated any of the women, he says. One was a one-night stand, the others “repeat offenders.” Owens, who has never been married, concedes he is “not a very good judge of character.” Still, he “never suspected they were the types to do what they done in the past year.”

It almost makes you feel sorry for Owens…almost. But a life spent alienating teammates, family members, and lovers should not earn him a free pass from the guilt he obviously feels. A guilt that he’ll inevitably carry to his death.

Love Me, Hate Me, Just Don’t Ignore Me [GQ]

Earlier this month, Terrell Owens was hospitalized for an undisclosed reason. There were allegations that it was a suicide attempt but nothing concrete outside a police report. But now it appears that Owens’ inner circle believed he tried to take his life. TMZ has obtained the 911 call placed on the night of October 6th and his assistant states with confidence to the operator that it was a suicide attempt. She adds that he took at least four prescription pain pills and his breathing was shallow.

If you recall, Owens held a press conference after his 2006 incident and emphatically denied he took 35 Vicodin. In this case, however, nobody has commented and frankly, it’s doubtful anyone ever will.

What does it look like when an NFL has-been works out and nobody’s there to see it. Well, I’m glad you asked. It looks something like this.

Perhaps teams were turned away because of Terrell Owens’ age. Perhaps the ACL injury kept them from coming. Or perhaps there was more to that hospitalization on the night of October 6th than was initially reported.

Either way, a desperate team will come calling sometime in the near future. Given some of the inept offensive numbers from Week 7 in the NFL, it wouldn’t be the worst of ideas.

Perhaps Owens realized that cameras were rolling and any kind of physical confrontation would paint him in a bad light or, perhaps Owens just felt sorry for the jackass. Either way, he should be applauded for not stooping down to the man’s level. A decision that will more than likely pay dividends in the future should an NFL team take a risk on him. A lot easier to sign a known malcontent with a bum knee when he doesn’t have an assault hanging over his head.

Terrell Owens is making headlines for all the wrong reasons this week. On Monday, we told you that T.O. may have torn his ACL on his reality show. Though his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, denies it, nothing definitive has come from the Owens camp as of yet. To add insult to injury in an amazingly bad stretch of news, the mother of Owens’ child says he now owes $5,000 in child support. Simple mistake or is T.O. trying to skirt daddy duties?

Owens “has failed and refused to pay the full amount of child support for June 2011,” Atlanta attorney Randall Kessler wrote in court records. Owens’ financial advisers have informed Smith that he’s decided to no longer pay the full amount, Kessler added.

Kessler said Wednesday that Smith doesn’t have any ill will toward Owens.

“She simply asks that he follow the order to which he agreed,” he said. “Rather than discussing his situation with her or her lawyers first, he simply cut his child support.”

Perhaps Owens sees the writing on the wall. With the uncertainty, both in the lockout and his own health, maybe he just realized how much $5,000 is to his financial bottom line.

Actually, I take that back. In the 2010 season, T.O. made two million dollars, so the child support only accounts for 3% of his entire salary…excluding endorsements and monies from the “T.O. Show” of course. So yea, if true, it’s fair to label him as a cheapskate and a deadbeat dad.

BOOO!

Terrell Owens underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL he suffered in the offseason. That much is fact and without dispute. What is under dispute, however, is how he suffered said injury. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said it occurred during workouts but ESPN NFL analyst Chris Mortensen uncovered something more juicy–T.O. did it while filming his reality show on VH-1.

Oops.

Another source said Owens tore the ACL during a personal workout but other sources could not confirm the cause of injury. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, also was unavailable for comment Sunday evening. His brother and partner in the agent business, Jason Rosenhaus, said, “I don’t like to deny stories or confirm or deny anything. It’s really something for Drew (to address).”

Rosenhaus issued a denial to an ESPN inquiry last month about Owens’ injury. Other sources close to Owens ignored specific inquiries Sunday night.

Third season of the “T.O. Show” premieres Monday, August 22nd. Considering the lack of ratings its received thus far, the ACL injury should add an exciting controversy to a show that is in desperate need of one.

For what it’s worth, VH-1 seems aware of that fact too. Here’s the teaser for the upcoming season with a possible hint to Owens’ career.

Once T.O. gets to Miami, he can’t help but enjoy the spicy women of South Beach which reminds him of the perks of being a single man… but how long will Kita be able to tolerate all the women on their doorstep? No matter what happens, one thing is for sure, Terrell needs to get his life together and make his next move before his time runs out.

Given Justin Bieber’s MVP performance over the weekend, it only makes sense to look back at some of the most shocking athletic performances from celebrities.

7 Terrell Owens – 18 points and 3 rebounds in one half

It’s almost unfair to put Terrell Owens on a list like this. After all, TO did dabble as a professional basketball player in the USBL before the Philadelphia Eagles angrily put an end to it five years ago. But his 18 points at the 2008 Celebrity game was remarkable because he didn’t even play half the game. Yea, Owens dropped 18 points including a monster dunk on a bunch of five foot nothing celebs en route to the MVP award.

6 Marisa Miller’s pants fall down

This isn’t as much shocking as it is awesome. At the 2010 Celebrity Beach Bowl, someone had this fantastic idea of putting Marisa Miller in skimpy jogging pants with flags attached to them. From the very onset of the game, Miller had repeated wardrobe malfunctions as she tried to keep her pants up after tackles. It culminated in arguably the greatest depantsing in the history of sports when Tom Arnold got entirely too physical with Miller. Arnold later admitted it was his greatest contribution to society since trying to rid the world of Roseanne.

(See more of Marisa Miller’s depantsing)

5 Justin Bieber MVP 2011 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

Fresh off a disappointing Grammy’s that saw him go home empty handed, pop sensation Justin Bieber was looking for redemption. He got in the form of a surprising MVP performance at the 2011 NBA All-Star celebrity game. But it wasn’t just the stats (8 points, 4 rebounds) that gave everyone “Bieber Fever”, it was the skills he displayed when he crossed-over and broke the ankles of fellow musician Common.

4 Dan Cortese hits a homerun in his last ever at-bat for Rock N’ Jock

The name Dan Cortese is synonymous with celebrity athletic events. Cortese spearheaded MTV’s Rock N’ Jock for the better part of a decade, leading the way with flag football games and of course, the infamous “Bricklayers” vs. “Violators” basketball game. His greatest moment, however, came in his last ever at-bat in Rock N’ Jock softball when he homered to deep center. Even a roided-up Brady Anderson couldn’t get to that one.

3 Michael Rapaport scores four points and wins MVP

For some reason, D-List actor Michael Rapaport has made repeated appearances at celebrity games–apparently the term celebrity is used loosely for these things. Anyways, in 2010, Rapaport scored two baskets becoming the only ginger outside of Brian Scalabrine to ever put the ball in the hoop in competitive play. For that effort and his supposed shut-down of Terrell Owens, he was given the MVP award.

2 Kevin Coster shows off his wheels in Rock N’ Jock softball

Kevin Coster made his fair share of sports flicks over the years. In fact you could argue those were the only movies he made that didn’t bomb in the box office (*cough, cough Waterworld *cough). So it comes as no surprise that Costner with his experience in Field of Dreams and Bull Durham was somewhat of a stud on a baseball diamond. During the 1990 Rock N’ Jock softball game, Costner shockingly managed to score from first on a Daryl Strawberry fly ball to seal the win for his team.

1 Nelly – 11 points and 12 rebounds in 2006 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

There have certainly been memorable performances by celebrities in athletic events, but none can touch Nelly’s stat-stuffer at the 2006 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. At times, Nelly resembled the Harlem Globetrotter’s Curly Neal as he repeatedly dribbled circles around his competitors. His 11 points and 12 rebounds is the only recorded double-double by a celebrity in the game and judging from the talent that is usually displayed at these things, it will be the only one for the foreseeable future.

Contrary to what Minnesota Vikings officials have been saying for days now, the Metrodome will not be ready for its last game of the 2010 campaign. The Vikings will instead use the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium. Oddly enough, the Monday night affair comes exactly 29 years to the day that a game was last played outside in Minnesota.

7

Days after just missing an upset of the Michigan State Spartans, the Oakland Grizzlies upset the #7 ranked Tennessee Vols 89-82. The reigning Summit League champs are no slouches, they have a center named Keith Benson that is a legit college big man and may very well play in the NBA one day. The near misses for Oakland have been plentiful this year. They played both Purdue and Illinois tough in the first half before faltering late in the game. Tennessee, it seems, did not take them seriously enough. That, or, maybe the Vols were just a tad overrated themselves.

2-11

Don’t blame that 2-11 Bengals start on the players, it’s on the coaches says wide receiver Terrell Owens. Way to deflect the blame there T.O. I’m sure Carson Palmer’s repeated pick-sixes have little to do with that record. “Of course, we have to go out there and play the game. But in order for us to do what we’re allowed to do at the best of our abilities, the coaches have to put the players in the best position.” Yes, I think I speak for everybody when I say, shut up T.O.

750,000

The fall of Mark Prior has to be one of the more fascinating but sad stories in baseball over the last decade. At one point, people were saying Prior could one day win multiple Cy Young awards and possibly get into the Hall of Fame. But after he peaked in the 2001 season with an 18-6 record and an All-Star game appearance, things have gone south for him. The Yankees are giving him one last shot signing him to a minor-league contract yesterday. If Prior does indeed make the big leagues, he’s due to make 750k.

20

To say that the Indiana Pacers were on fire during the 3rd quarter of yesterday’s game against the Denver Nuggets would be a severe understatement. After making 20 shots in a row, yes 20, Josh McRoberts clanged a 3-pointer with 1.9 seconds left for their first miss of the quarter. The Pacers went on to score 144 points in regulation, an NBA high this year.

46

Speaking of being on fire, Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap scored 46 points including a shot at the buzzer in regulation to send a game against the Heat into overtime yesterday. LeBron James’ triple-double and a monster game from Dwyane Wade (39 points) were just not enough to pull it out in the extra frame either as the Jazz sneaked by the Heat with a 116-114 victory. Oh yea, the game was in Miami and they had a 22-point lead…hell of a home court advantage for the Big Three.

473

The “Batman and Robin” sideshow is not so amusing anymore for 6-time pro-bowler Chad Ochocinco. He’s visibly upset about his role in the offense. His 40 catches for 473 yards and two touchdowns are far from the numbers he was predicted to put up. Teams seem content to double him in coverage and thus, teammate Terrell Owens “Batman” is having a career year. All this whining may not matter in the end as the hapless Bengals remain one of the worst teams in the NFL.

The fistacuffs between Jeff Gordon & Jeff Burton weren’t the only highlight at Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend. Kyle Busch gave a NASCAR official the finger as he sat in pit row for a one-lap penalty. The obscene gesture was caught before ESPN cameras could cut away. The incident cost Busch $25k and he later apologized…”I lost my cool, plain and simple”.

It’s not that Tiger Woods isn’t winning majors anymore, it’s that he’s not winning tournaments. It’s been an entire year since Woods lifted a trophy over his head and declared himself victorious. The upcoming Australian Masters is his last chance for a win in the 2010 calendar year. But Tiger is still questioning his swing, “I was definitely waffling,” he said. “At the PGA, every night I was trying to figure out, ‘Should I actually do this or not?” I’m confused, is he referring to his swing or to the hot blonde concierge?

Sarah Palin has probably never watched “The T.Ocho Show”. In fact, it’s a good bet she’s not even familiar with the shenanigans of Terrell Owens or Chad Ochocino. Had the NFL played games in Russia though, I’m guessing she could certainly see them from her window.

Anyways, the Bengals’ receivers let everyone know that while they think Palin is cute, she certainly isn’t Playboy material.

Let’s be fair to Palin here. Politics aside, she’s a 46-year old working woman with five kids who doesn’t necessarily have time for constant facials, mani/pedi’s and the occasional boob job. So we here at Guyism are more than willing to grant her GILF status. If only because she has a decent pair of legs for a grandma.

If you’re like me, you treat Sunday’s like a sacred holiday. You head down into the man’s room with your multiple TV setup, and of course your laptop. Instead of mindlessly scouring the web for information about your favorite team or your fantasy running back that just went down, give these NFL players, coaches, bloggers, and writers a follow on Twitter.

25 @mortreport

Along with colleague Adam Schefter at ESPN, Chris Mortensen has the entire NFL covered. Injuries, team news, etc. Incredible sources and usually break stories well before other media members do.

24 @ProFootballTalk

The preminent NFL sports blogger on the net, Mike Florio tweets all his stories after he posts them. Though not considered MSM by others, he has sources other writers don’t.

23 @Adam_Schefter

A survey of fans last year revealed Adam Schefter as the best NFL insider in the country. Quite a compliment for a guy who used to substitute for Woody Paige on Around the Horn.

22 @darrenrovell1

Though Darren Rovell of CNBC is a sports business reporter, he often offers up great NFL info you normally wouldn’t get from others. Prices of jerseys, tickets, new ad deals for the league are just some of the things you’ll see if you follow Rovell.

21 @OGOchoCinco

Even if you’re not a NFL fan, Chad Ochocinco is entertaining enough to follow on Twitter. He treats it like a blog often tweeting pictures and videos of his daily happenings. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, you’ll catch him tweeting during a game.

20 @ChrisJohnson28

Go big or go home. That’s essentially Chris Johnson’s motto. When he decided to holdout after the end of last season, he updated all his followers via Twitter urging the Titans to “make the right decision”. He promised that he’d run for 2500 yards this year and he’ll be sure to let everyone know how it goes in 140 characters or less

19 @Rotoworld_FB

Plain and simple, if you’re a fantasy football geek, this is an absolute must. Injury details are usually given as they occur during games.

18 @sportsguy33

One of the most popular sports writers in America, Simmons is probably more well-known for his basketball takes and pop culture references. But don’t let that fool you. Simmons knows football as well as anybody else.

17 @JaredAllen69

I’ll admit–earlier this year when Jared Allen cut his mullet because of his impending nuptials, a part of me died. It was the greatest mullet in the history of sports. Aside from that, he’s also good for some witty quips as he’s one of the more quotable NFL players out there.

16 @SI_PeterKing

Peter King’s Monday Morning Quarterback has regularly been the most read NFL column for the last few years. And though we don’t always agree with King’s takes (he openly ripped Alex Barron on Sunday), he’s still the preeminent NFL writer in America.

15 @KissMeSuzy

My only wish–that these NFL bloggers would tweet a bit more often. But if you don’t like poop jokes, toilet humor and overall ripping of some of your favorite players, it’s best to probably just stay away.

14 @greggrosenthal

Another one of the guys on the PFT staff that regularly keeps up with NFL news. Never seems to go to sleep as some of his tweets regularly go into the wee hours of the night.

13 @QBKILLA

The “QBKilla” Warren Sapp was a character on the field and he’s certainly one on Twitter. Sapp offers up his analysis of NFL games, albeit not good analysis, via his tweets. It’s often not analytical, but then again, someone gave Terry Bradshaw a job.

12 @Jones_Drew32

MJD is no Chris Johnson and he’s certainly not as entertaining as others in the NFL, but regardless, he’s a guy who keeps up with his followers and will do his best to tweet you back if you choose to reply to him.

11 @reggie_bush

The USC scandal is over “for now” and so is his relationship with Kim Kardashian, but it’s only a matter of time before something comes up in the world of Reggie Bush. Scandal seems to follow him wherever he goes.

Pete Carroll’s first season with the Seahawks should be an interesting one. And as one of the few coaches who actually tweets, it’s good to get info from somebody on the inside.

9 @markschlereth

Not only does “Stinky” offer up league-wide analysis with his work for ESPN but he’s also a Denver sports talk radio host. So if you want the ins and outs of everything Broncos related, he’s a great follow.

8 @sbnation

An aggregate of everything sports related on the web, SBNation is on top of news in the NFL. Another one of those bloggers who regularly tweets all their posts.

7 @Lfitzgerald11

One of the best receivers in the game, Larry Fitzgerald is an active tweeter. No, he’s not as crazy or as entertaining as Ochocinco, but then again, who is.

6 @NFLFanHouse

The newer guys on the block, bloggers Andy Benoit, Josh Katzowitz and Will Brinson post on-time analysis and rumors as they hear him.

4 @A_Cromartie31

We’re just hoping that once this season Antonio will decide to tweet the name of his children. Given his trouble before, the “um’s” might take all 140 characters.

3 @Revis24

Though the fireworks for cornerback Darrelle Revis are now essentially over because his holdout is done, he’s still the best defensive player in the game. He’s good for some mid-season smack talk with other players.

2 @timtebow

I didn’t like Tim Tebow as a collegian and I doubt I’ll like him as a pro. But he has a direct line to the Lord himself and ultimately, that’s the only reason you should follow him.

1 @terrellowens

Inevitably, there will be a time this year when the Bengals won’t have enough balls to go around for T.O. and Ochocinco. I’m guessing it will occur somewhere around 8 games into the season. And the complaints will come fast and furious on Twitter. I eagerly await the public break-up of Batman & Robin

Our resident football expert Matthew Shepatin, who teamed up with Hall of Fame Jets receiver Don Maynard to recount his days as Joe Namath’s favorite target in You Can’t Catch Sunshine, out today, peers into the future and tells you with absolute certainty what’s going to happen this NFL season. Get your popcorn ready, son.

1. Ben Roethlisberger stars in new black-and-white Nike commercial, featuring his father’s voice from the grave. Creepy part: his dad is still alive.

2. The Chiefs have brought in a new Associate Director of Group Sales. Even if he pans out, I still remain skeptical the Chiefs reach the playoffs this year.

3. The New Orleans Saints bid for a repeat Super Bowl will end abruptly after Plaxico Burress’ gun accidently goes off in Drew Brees’s pants

4. Bill Belichick proves, once and for all, that he can plug any player into his system and be successful, moving the “fat guy” from CBS’ Mike & Molly over to the weak side.

5. Roger Goodell fines Ocho Cinco $25,000 for updating Tumblr in the huddle.

6. Rex Ryan shows the world that he’s not full of hot air. It’s really gross and bloody in there.

7. Michael Vick finally earns redemption after saying one ‘Our Father’ and throwing three Hail Marys.

8. While head coach Lovie Smith’s decision to go with Devin Hester as the Chicago Bears number one receiver was the disaster that fans and the media predicted, nobody saw how it would lead to a solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

9. Seattle Seahawks players not sure how to tell new coach Pete Carroll that his Beiber cut “just not working”.

10. New Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb gets his revenge on millions of unappreciative Philadelphia Eagles fans, beaming them all with snowballs.

11. Kanye West hijacks Taylor Swift’s Super Bowl half-time performance to announce that the Pottsville Maroons deserved the 1925 NFL title instead of the Chicago Cardinals. He later apologizes to Swift, offering to produce, write and perform her next ten albums.

12. Spoiler Alert: Tim Tebow. Cylon.

13. With the AFL Wild-Card game on the line, receiver T. J. Houshmandzadeh will make an incredible circus catch, only to be run over by a clown car short of the goal line.

14. To his credit, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers makes a strong push for the NFL’s Most Valuable Player Award. Still a virgin.

15. Halfway through the season fed-up Bengals fans tell T.O. to go f#@k himself. However, some feel that him doing it on the Dallas Star was uncouth.

16. Over on the 49ers bench, back-up quarterback David Carr accuses back-up kicker Shane Andrus of passing wind. Andrus counter-attacks that, ‘he who smealt it, dealt it’.

17. Good news, Dallas fans: Tony Romo will be in the zone during the playoffs. Bad news: it will be the Auto Zone.

18. The surprising Carolina Panthers battle the New Orleans Saints for a Super Bowl berth in the NFC Championship. Even Panthers fans secretly hope they lose, knowing Saints versus any AFL team will make a far more compelling game.

19. The Raiders passing attack, while improved from a year ago, is still no match for Skynet.

20. New York Giants win Super Bowl. NFL awards the Lombardi trophy to Dallas in order to keep it a respectful distance from Ground Zero.

21. Everybody comments that the Super Bowl commercial starring “Old Spice Guy” was hilarious. It won’t be funny at all.
