First, Rich Rodriguez’ job was safe. Then rumors circulated yesterday that he was fired by Michigan Athletic Director Dave Brandon. Then the university came out and said those rumors aren’t true. And now today, the fate of Rodriguez is somehow still in the balance. In this day and age of breaking news, it’s very possible that someone is lying. If RichRod is fired today, the athletic department and the entire university will look like fools. Something UM is all too familiar with the last few years.

Speaking of the Michigan Wolverines, one of their alums doesn’t appear to want to come back home. Stanford Cardinals coach Jim Harbaugh is being courted by several NFL teams including the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers. One report yesterday even said that Harbaugh had already agreed to terms with the 49ers, although, the way things have been going lately, without a press conference, nothing is solid.

Going into yesterday’s Sugar Bowl, Ohio State University had never beaten an SEC team in a postseason game. Quite an embarrassing feat for such a storied program. But the Buckeyes came out firing early and often taking a 28-7 lead and holding on during a furious late 4th quarter comeback for the win. The victory was a bit tainted though as Pryor and four other Buckeyes were allowed to play despite breaking NCAA rules.

Ok, perhaps some buried the Miami Heat a tad too soon. They’ve won 19 out of their last 20 games (.950) and are looking like the well-oiled machine many thought they would look like. Dwyane Wade has found his role again as the primary scorer while James seems to thrive in the distributor role that he has always excelled at. If they can continue this run, 65 wins is certainly in the cards but more importantly, so is an NBA championship.

As if Ohio State university wasn’t already in peril because of recent foul-ups by several members of the Buckeyes’ football team, Terrelle Pryor may have just made things that much worse.

Less than a week after five players, including Pryor, were suspended for selling game-worn paraphernalia, a report came out yesterday that Pryor has been driving automobiles from a used-car lot in Columbus for several years.

Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor was stopped for traffic violations three times in the past three years while driving cars owned by a car salesman or used-car lot, but an Ohio State investigation determined nothing improper occurred, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Pryor was pulled over twice in early 2010 driving a Dodge that was registered to Auto Direct, a used-car dealership in Columbus. In 2008, Pryor was pulled over driving a 2004 GMC Denali, registered to Aaron Kniffin, a car salesman at Auto Direct.

Ohio State was unaware of the 2008 traffic stop, but told the Dispatch it would investigate. The use of the Dodge was excused because his car was in the shop.

Oh, I get it, his car was in the shop and he was just borrowing from a friend. Ah–happened to me all the time. I always made it a point in college to have friends at used-car lots just in case something like this arose. The fact that OSU “investigated” this and found nothing improper occurred but then said it happened to be “unaware” of the 2008 incident is so beyond hilarious.

On a side note, Pryor really is one unlucky bastard. Not to say that I obey every traffic law out there, but I’ll be damned if I get pulled over three times in three years in automobiles that aren’t even mine.

Less than a few weeks away from their Sugar Bowl game with Arkansas, Ohio State may be on the verge of suspending some of their players. Several news outlets including the Columbus Dispatch reports that players allegedly traded autographs for tattoos.

An athletic department spokesman said yesterday that no players had been suspended for the bowl and would not acknowledge that an investigation was taking place, citing privacy issues. Athletic director Gene Smith has not responded to multiple attempts for comment but has scheduled a news conference at noon today.

For what it’s worth, stud quarterback Terrelle Pryor wants everybody to know that he paid for his tats. Yesterday, he went on his Twitter account after reportedly seeing his name amongst the guilty on message boards, etc…

All in all, this will be much ado about nothing. OSU is one of those schools that just never feels the wrath of the NCAA–one of their golden goose if you will.

Maurice Clarett was basically driving any car he wanted and the NCAA acted as if he was Lee Harvey Oswald in the Book Depository with a long-range rifle.

And yet, Jim Tressel was standing on the Grassy Knoll with an umbrella.
