If you’re like me, you’d never heard of Nero up until last week, but was won over by their Genesis-esque clip. So now it’s time to get acquainted with Polinski and their ode to old school PC gaming.

And much like the aforementioned clip, what we’re getting is a tad bit more than what machines at the time were able to pump out. I also personally don’t recall any adventure titles having an arcade-y driving segment. Not complaining, just saying. Anyhow…

I give the song a 5; it’s just the same, semi-generic, vaguely Fisherspooner-like sound that I’ve been hearing from Williamsburg for the past half-decade or so. But the video is a solid 11+! Brilliantly executed.

Anyhow, the clip is courtesy of Kotaku, who also recently highlighted another music video, for Sole and the Skyrider Band, yet another musical act that I’ve never heard of. It’s made by some folks who actually worked on some games (specifically, some of Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy titles) and even includes a few Portal and Left 4 Dead references…

Now that Double Fine has their million in the bank, it’s time to move onto other things.

As you may have heard, Double Fine, which is headed by the much beloved Tim Schafer, responsible for such classics as Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, and Psychonauts, recently turned to his fans directly to help finance their latest project, leaving the traditional method of enlisting the aid of publishers, in the dust (who would have, more than likely either asked for a million stupid changes, or simply refused). And in the end, over a million was raised in under 24 hours (with that number still growing), setting all kinds of records.

And you know, that’s just plain awesome for the company and its fans. But unfortunately, I am unable to join in on the celebration due a number of reasons. First and foremost, I totally suck at adventure games, which is what their new game will be. Though I am pretty decent at old school inspired platformers, even ones that involved jumping, skateboarding, and smoking pot (theoretically). Which is why I’m a tad bit more interested in a little thing called Super Doobie Dude…

The Kickstarter is looking to raise $10,000 at the very least, for a PC and Mac version. If it gets to $12,0000, that means iOS and Android versions as well! And how much is it up to thus far?

Just one dollar. Internet, you disappoint. But there’s sixteen days left, so theoretically, using Double Fine’s success as a barometer of potential success, that means it could potentially have a budget of $16,000,000! Come, let’s do this! All interested parties that wish to lend a hand should do so here.

Behold another recent Dorkly vid. The premise is fairly flimsy, yet I still laughed in the end. I think being a big fan of Super Mario World (it was one of my jams, back during my junior high school daze) was the primary reason. But even I was sick of her bitching by the end…

Meanwhile, the following isn’t necessarily funnier, but at least it’s a bit more topical. For you BioShock fans out there…

You know, it’s been out for quite a while now, but people are clearly not bored of the lastest Elder Scrolls. But apparently not.

In fact, its publisher, Bethesda Softworks, recently revealed that the average amount of time that people are putting into the game is 75 hours! And such immense popularity is precisely why there’s still a steady stream of wacky YouTube clips, all paying homage to the game, with no end in sight.

Especially with the just released modding tools, that the creators themselves use, and which are now in the hands of the public. Anyhow, since it’s been a while, here once again are some of the best of the best of said Skyrim-inspired cinema. Staring off with the aforementioned LOTR-esque brawl for all. Peter Jackson would indeed be proud…

If only the actual Lord of the Rings games could be as awesome. Next up is another mod that allows the player to perform shouts in the game, not by pressing a button like normal, but actually say them yourself. It’s basically the nightmare of anyone who doesn’t particularly enjoy the game, but lives with someone who does…

Third up is a tutorial that details how one can kill a dragon with just a single arrow, thanks to the “f*cking awesome bow”. Warning: unless you’re familiar with the actual game, everything you hear will sound like complete gibberish. It’s like being late to the first day of class, and after hearing the professor open his mouth, it hits you that you got the room number wrong…

Hey, it’s been a while since I featured a Minecraft mod, hasn’t it? Time to kill two birds with one stone…

And time once again for yet another cover of Skyrim‘s theme, this time by a one man band…

The following has a decent premise: a guy who is so absorbed by the game that his wife conducts an intervention. And it’s pretty funny, for the most part. But the ending is pretty lame. Still, am including it anyway cuz I find the brunette really hot…

Finally, remember the modding tools I mentioned earlier? Well, included in the package is a neat little extra: the space pod from Portal 2, who can join you in your exploits. He’s kinda like Navi from Ocarina of Time, but not as helpful. But at least you can kick him around!

Okay, not really, but she is a coplayer who likes to cook near her van, in the middle of the woods.

Via Kotaku comes a Chinese woman who has a cooking “show” on the internet. Who one day decided to go camping. And dress up as a Final Fantasy 7 character that shares the same name as her. AND make some curry fried rice.

For those strapped for time, I suggest fast forwarding to the 3:50 mark, in which she scrambles some eggs, and thusly causing her large breasts to giggle, for almost an entire minute. At the very least she has one part of her character down pat…

If not for the fact the semi-goofy presentation, this above would be far more depressing, since it would simply be footage of a completely insane woman doing what completely insane people do with their lives. Or at least I think she’s aware of what’s happening.

I’m simply impressed that she was able to cook a semi-complicated dish in the middle of the woods. Anyhow, here’s another, of her prepping food indoors…

Again, she at least has the mammaries to realize the character she’s trying to play, though she’s a bit on the old side, even for most cosplayers (hey, not criticizing, just saying). All I want to know is this: who the hell is filming?

This Mass Effect case is not nearly as stupid looking as the Gears of War or Battlefield cases, but that’s not saying much.

Remember Calibur11 and their line of Battlefield 3 PS3 and Xbox 360 covers? Perfect for telling the whole world (or maybe just your mom) that: “Hey, in case my leet skillz are called upon for the real thing, and I need to play Battlefield in the trenches, to help out with strategy and stuff, I’m gonna need protection!” Or some other similar delusion of grandeur.

Well, they’ve just unveiled a line for the upcoming Mass Effect 3. And it looks not quite as bad as the aforementioned others, but it’s not quite perfect either. First up, the PS3 version…

And next, one for the Xbox 360…

On paper, the idea of dressing up your console to look futuristic, like it was from the Mass Effect universe, is actually a great idea, especially since their mechanical design is pretty top notch. But having a part of Commander Shepard’s chest plate as part of the design just screams lazy.

Both will cost you $90. What a deal, huh? And included in the package is some kind of DLC. Hopefully it’s something minor or easily attainable for those who aren’t into Calibur11′s offerings. By the way, I just discovered that they have a YouTube channel. Last time I only briefly mentioned their GoW covering. Well, watch Calibur11′s pitchman demonstrate all of its features. The skull, it glows!

At least they’re putting the skills they learned from some goofy, made up training regimen, based upon a military force that doesn’t actually exist, to good use.

The following is noteworthy for several reasons. First, it’s a fan film based upon Uncharted, the first of its kind that I’ve ever seen at least. Second, as Destructoid notes, it’s filled with folks from the local Stormtrooper Academy. Which I’m guessing is along the lines of the NY Jedi: a bunch of dorks who like to hang out and live the Star Wars “lifestyle”. Hey, we all need hobbies.

And I guess if you’re making a fan flick, based on a game, and need some folks with muscle, it makes more sense to ping make believe soliders than the real thing, like off duty army grunts or police cadets. Now, if the latter were not actual cops in training, but were pretending to be in Police Academy, from the movies? But I digress…

Overall, a noble effort, though the primary thing of note is how it illustrates why there aren’t all that many Uncharted fan flicks to begin with: you sorta need someone that can come close to realizing Nathan Drake. And the guy above doesn’t quite fit the bill, but I give him an A for effort anyway.

Also, it’s a disappointing that the aforementioned extras are not in their normal battle armor. I mean, this is a fan flick after all. Plus all the bad guys go down with just one shot, and anyone that has played the game knows that it’s just not the case, sorry.

Thanks to the folks at Feast of Fiction, who have managed to create the Legend of Zelda’s hear potion, IRL.

They’ve made soufflé from Skyrim and a cake from Minecraft. What’s next? How about that drink replenishes Link’s hearts in all his adventures? The fact that it’s semi-topical, with Valentine’s around the corner, is all the better…

So it’s basically sangria. In fancy, Legend of Zelda-like bottles. Fair enough.

Unfortunately, I’ve never been a fan of the stuff. But that’s mostly due to only have the kind that a former roommate of mine created, and it sucked. She also tried making mojitos out of sake, which should tell you what an epic fail her skills were when it came to creating drinks.

So the PlayStation Vita is almost here, but many are waiting for a slimmer model? But will there actually be one? Well, I’m still waiting for the 3DS to be redesigned, but it’s still a safe bet that a reworked Vita will arrive eventually. Why? Because history says so, but there’s other clues to be found.

To be honest, the following starts out rather weak, but stick with it, because the ending is simply classic…

Like many video game bloggers, Jonah Falcon has a podcast. One that’s dedicated towards the Xbox 360. And not his ginormous penis. 13.5 inches to be exact. Yeah, I know.

Via Kotaku: Jonah Falcon is kinda famous, at least here in NYC. He’s known primarily for his Talkin’ Xbox and Talkin’ Yankees (the does the former during baseball’s off season) cable access call-in shows, in which residents all across the island of Manhattan goof on the guy, mercilessly, on live television.

Though his primary claim to fame is having the world’s longest penis. Again, it’s 13.5 inches fully erect, but also 9.5 when flaccid. So what does a guy do when he’s endowed with such hardware? Other than reviewing Xbox games of course. Appear in porn? Nope; you appear on a basic cable program…

He seems like a nice guy, and like everyone else, Jonah deserves that special someone that will love him for who he is, and not just for what’s he’s got packing.

Though he should also look on the bright side; I know he’s sick of meaningless sex, but there’s some gamers out there who can’t even score that, so he should consider himself lucky.

Thus far, it certainly looks promising. But even in an age in which licensed games not automatically suck, there’s still cause for concern. Especially since it’s by the same folks behind Duke Nukem Forever, and that game sucked the big one.

But the developer, Gearbox Software, is also responsible for Borderlands, so perhaps Aliens is in good hands after-all? Anyhow, first up, the cinematic teaser that came out not too long ago…

Not bad. But what about the actual game? Again, things appear to be in decent order…

Aliens: Colonial Marines is being billed as the “true” sequel to the James Cameron classic. Apparently, there’s even a few ties to the upcoming Alien prequel, Prometheus, which is all the more encouraging.

Again, I just hope it’s good. Because, given how amazing the license is, and how there’s been countless games that have been inspired by the franchise (everything from Doom to Dead Space), officially anointed titles that are worth a damn have been few and far between. As illustrated by the following look at pretty much every Alien game to date…

Perhaps the best of the bunch was Alien 3 for the SNES, but mostly for it’s visuals. At least the Alien vs. Predator games have been fairly excellent (whereas the movies were just retarded).

And it’s coming to video games, eventually, as heralded in a blog post that is slightly disturbing somewhat.

There’s a man out there, Jorge Jimenez, who wants to help create the most realistic virtual skin ever. And taken at face value (see what I did there), his goal seems noble enough. Plus he’s clearly appears to be on the right track, as evidenced by the following…

And as Rock, Paper, Scissors notes as well, it’s great that he want said tech to be mostly for games, something that’s accessible, not just for fancy ass, big budget CGI motion pictures.

The real issue is how slightly insane Jimenez comes off. First, if you were somewhat off-put by the heavy-handedness of the video above, you weren’t the only one. Though the real issue is how he outlines his master plan, in a blog post called THE DAY HAS COME. I’m not saying it reads like Mein Kampf or anything like that, but…

It is often joked about how the downfall of man would be by the hands of synthetic supermen, but such magical beings don’t come out of thing air. Basically, when that day comes, we can all blame Jorge Jimenez for screwing over the human race. Thanks for nothing, dude.

First off, the creator did an absolutely brilliant job taking one of the best tracks in the game and making it even catchier, plus making it about smoking pot.

But I’m also confident that if Snoop Dog ever did find himself back in time, he’d act much like he does in the clip above: just bumming around town, bragging about what a playa he is, and looking for something good to smoke.

The creator of Twisted Metal is also jumping ship, due to not wanting to be involved in the upcoming casual game projects.

So get this: according to various reports, Eat Sleep Play, the makers up of the upcoming, and highly anticipated Twisted Metal revival, has just laid off eight employees. The series creator, the much beloved David Jaffe (he also created God of War btw, so he’s one of Sony’s best hands for sure) is also gone.

It was reported that he was off to create casual games, but his response to that, as noted by Joystiq was basically: yeah, right. And that makes sense, given that his former home’s new emphasis is going to be iPhone and iPad development, hence the exit.

Well, this all certainly sucks. It’s a situation that’s not all that different from Last Guardian, with yet another creator flying the coop (though at least Jaffe stuck around long enough to see the game to completion as a full-timer). One also has to wonder why such a focus is being made without the game having shipped yet.

Is this a sign that the final product is less than perfect? Perhaps not… Jaffe’s track record is fairly sound, and Twisted Metal‘s return was clearly a labor of love for him. But one can’t help but view things in such a manner either.

In their opinion, Skullgirls is basically “Mahvel Baybee!” version 2.0. But if that term makes no sense to know, not sure what else I can say, sorry.

I’ve mentioned Skullgirls in the past at least once already. It’s basically Deviant Art: the video game, which sounds like hell to some, but it features the kind of art that’s actually eye pleasing. It’s like artist who brainstormed their idea of the ultimate 2D fighter actually got together and made it happen!

The fact that it’s an all girls roster, featuring character types that are genuinely unique to the fighting genre, is even better. And Street Fighting fanatics are getting all hot and bothered, which is both a good and bad thing. But first, here’s two such folks…

Hell, I’m way into this stuff and even I didn’t get half the stuff that they were saying. But yeah, my big fear is that it’ll be yet another eye-pleasing, yet ultimately impossible to play 2D fighters. It being so close to Marvel vs Capcom, for me, is not a good thing.

Sure areal combos are neat. Too bad I can’t do one to save my life. But then again, Skullgirls isn’t for me, ultimately. Though one has to wonder how much more money could be made by making it noob friendly.

Anyhow, back to “Mahvel Baybee!” For those who aren’t yet aware of version 1.0, here ya go…

Usually the Taiwanese CGI news crew’s take on current events, no matter how morbid, are played for laughs. I guess whomever is in charge of the funny has the day off or something.

For those who missed the headlines last week, yet another gamer was found at an internet cafe in Asia, this time in Taiwan. I’ve actually been waiting for NMA’s report on the story to make a mention of it, which finally happened, but couldn’t have expected the following.

Warning: they actually show the body. He isn’t in bits & pieces or the like, but despite not being Faces of Death territory, it’s gruesome nonetheless, so be warned…

Basically, the dude was dead for about 9 hours before anyone realized he was dead. Cause of death is due to an apparent cardiac arrest, which is common in such cases. Basically, when a body doesn’t move for an especially long period, the blood can congeal, so any sudden movements… even just standing up… can cause a heart attack.

You know all those warning in video games, especially from Nintendo, about taking regular breaks while playing games? They’re there for a reason.

Along with the robot salaryman trying to buy beer at a convenience store, but not having much luck. Or at least I think that’s what’s going on?

The following are the latest spots to promote the upcoming Binary Domain in Japan, which arrives in America on the 28th of this month. As noted once already, it’s details what happens when the nice and friendly robots that have become part of everyday society snap and all decide to go after their human overlords.

And once again, the live action commercials follow the exploits of a humble and somewhat hard luck droid, just trying to get on with his protocols. This first one, as highlighted by Andriasang, is the best of the bunch, which has him at a hostess club after work, showing off some one of his fancy, robot-only tricks…

As before, sucks that it’s not subtitled, but I’m pretty certain that in the end, the reason for his error was because the final target’s breast were fake. Unfortunately, I have no clue what happens in this second clip…

My best guess is that the cash register tells the human cashier “Hey, I don’t think he’s old enough to buy beer” and is forced to produce age verifying identification, which he is unable to do. Anyhow, if the game is indeed about robots on a rampage, I’m guessing the final spot will have being pushed once too far, and going on a murderous rampage as a result. Or something like that.

Via Kotaku comes a rather neat looking, albeit non-functional mishmash.
But hey, the fact that it’s actually transformable is fairly impressive in its own right…

You can see more pics at the creator’s Tumblr. He also explains why it’s based more upon Megatron than Shockwave, though it mostly looks like Starscream to me. Mind you, I’m talking about the old school, 80s designs, not that pile of CGI rubbish that passes itself off as Transformers these days. But which kids are eating up, alas.

And finally, the aforementioned custom made horny Dr Mario figure that was making the rounds not too long ago…

Every year, EA tries to see who will win the Super Bowl by running a simulation in Madden, which I guess makes sense, given that it’s a football game and all.

But 1UP decided to do the same, in another game that features giants and patriots. From what I understand, the actual outcome wasn’t nearly as lopsided, but it pinned the winner correctly, and that’s what matters…

But yeah, because of the video above, I don’t feel as foolish spending all last night playing Animal Crossing instead. Hey, I was behind on my virtual mortgage payment. BTW, for those curious, Madden also predicted a Giants victory…

Perhaps you’ve seen that commercial for Beats music gear? Well, hopefully not so much that the following will be ruined for you.

It was Super Punch who pointed out that the following tune is somewhat famous, for being in an ad for Dr. Dre’s line of headphones that are sold at Best Buy. I honestly haven’t paid attention to what Dre has looked like, since The Chronic almost 20 years ago. Is he on steroids or something? The dude is HUGE.

Anyway, that same song has an official video, and it references old school gaming, which is a thing these days I realize, but in this case, it’s done exceptionally well…

Most folks love doing stuff in 8-bit, as noted just yesterday, but 16-bits is where it’s at! In fact, one has to wonder why the dude from the previous link just didn’t go the SNES/Genesis route and save himself a ton of headaches. Oh, I get it; 16-bits isn’t completely in style yet.

Anyhow, if you’re going to tap into the 16-bit past, then what better system to draw from than the Genesis! The Streets of Rage homage is nice, but it’s the racing segment which truly won me over. Sorry, but OutRun-stylized scrolling terrain >>>>>>>>>> Mode 7 nonsense anyday.
