Call me a total dork (or something worse), but I happen to enjoy mini golf, or at least the idea of it. Sadly, trying to get the ball in the mouth of a gorilla or past the blades of a windmill lost its novelty factor when I was 13. So oddly enough, it could learn a few things from video games.

Or, at the very least, from the hackers who created the various holes you see above. Aside from the one clearly inspired by games, namely Minecraft and Porta, I dig the one that incorporates the Wii nunchuck the most.

Sadly, it would also go above the heads of the vast majority of those who play the game: the elderly. Unless mini golf is really to be the next big thing hipsters who like to pretend to be athletic. Guess kickball can only be interesting for so long, eh?

Too bad there really isn’t a Retro City Rampage cereal, but at least the game, which is also supposed to be from the 80s, but actually isn’t, is in fact legit. Did that make any sense?

The video above could easily be considered another example of an April Fools gag that actually works, since it came out on Sunday, but I’m viewing it as just further proof of the game makers’ ability to tap into the 80s brilliantly.

And thank God it’s almost here. I gave my first head’s up almost a year ago, and its been in development for way longer than that. Retro City Rampage finally arrives this May for the PC, Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and Vita.

Is your mom way into Zumba Fitness, that Latin dance inspired workout regimen? Does she happen to own a gaming console? Did she mysterious make a trip to LA last week? If yes to all of the above, try to spot in her the following crowd of 2,000.

The video game version of the latest craze in fitness has been red-hot on the Wii, so it was a given that a Xbox 360 iteration, via the Kinect, would happen. Since traditional gamers at this point could give a rat’s ass about Microsoft’s motion based input device.

Sorry, but the only things I can think up re fairly misogynistic, so all I’ll say is look at euphoric the women folk look (and especially sound). Also, note the random smattering of dudes. I wonder if any of them got lucky.

It’s also sad that Richard Simmons was born so early. Yet, I don’t think it’s too late for an interactive version of Sweating To The Oldies, along with Deal A Meal cards that are AR enabled, for your 3DS and Vita.

Normally when an established franchise that’s on the semi-decline decides to copy the competition, and is then delayed at the last minute, it’s sure-fire signs of a stinker. But turns out, the just released Ridge Racer Unbounded is, get this, actually kind of awesome?

There aren’t many reviews in the wild at the moment (the conspicuous lack of review copies was another sign of impeding crappiness for many), but Edge, a fairly respected outlet, just gave it a 9 out of 10, taking everyone by surprise. But it’s the footage above that has me the most excited.

The track editor, which was recently highlighted by ALBOTAS looks sick. All the wacky twists and turns is highly reminiscent of one of my favorite PC-only racers, Trackmania. Actually, there’s been a Wii version I think, but I’m pretty sure its graphics can’t hold a candle to a real deal. Been waiting forever for a PS3/Xbox 360 port, so this will do quite nicely instead.

If you missed yesterday’s Gold Box deals, no worries, because Amazon is now having a buy two, get one free sale, filled with tons of great games for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, 3DS, Vita, and more.

The selection of games to choose from is pretty decent. For both the PS3 and Xbox 360, stand outs include Mass Effect 3, the new SSX, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Dark Souls, and what was considered to be last year’s game of the year for many, Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Pickings for the Wii is pretty slim, unless you’re into all the goofy dancing and work out games that are available, though the recent Kirby games are pretty neat and part of the mix. On the regular DS side, I just got Devil Survivor 2 since I’m all about Tokyo teens fighting demons.

For the 3DS, stand outs include Super Mario 3D Land and Resident Evil Revelations. Best of all is for you new Vita owners out there; pretty much every launch title is available! That’s one bonus of a just launched platform that doesn’t have the biggest of libraries yet.

For those interested, head on over to here. No idea how long it will last; surely it’ll be more than just 24 hours like yesterday, but I’m willing to wager that it be here till past this upcoming weekend.

That’s the basic premise of the latest clip from Freddie Wong, who goes back in time to warning his even dorkier, younger self of a future in which video games totally suck. Well, in Freddie’s opinion at least.

The above is maybe Freddie’s best work yet, which is funny, considering that it’s almost completely devoid of all the fancy CGI-heavy tricks the YouTube auteur is best known for.

Though his viewpoint that the Wii is the reason why video games are currently in the midst of the “dark ages” is highly debatable, it’s also semi-valid. Yet there is little doubt that the Kinect is indeed been the pits. I also wish I knew back then what I know now about Apple.

The story, which Kotaku recently highlight, goes something like this: 18 year old Nickolas Charo had his Xbox 360, Wii, some games, and some controllers… plus a GPS unit and $250 in cash… stolen by a friend, 19 year old Joshua Beck.

But Beck was at least nice enough to leave their place his very own PlayStation 3. Huh? So the Microsoft and Nintendo console will fetch easy money on the streets, but not the Sony system? That makes no damn sense.

Unless Beck was super attached to his PS3, hence why he couldn’t bare to part with it, so he figured it would be in good hands with his pal Charo, whom he had also robbed. Which is especially messed up.

Bad news for all husky children out there, who hoped that video games could help them avoid gym class; a study shows that Wii Fit and its ilk are not super effective after-all.

For a while now, physical games provided on the Wii (plus those promised on the Kinect) have painted the picture that not all gamers are fatties on a couch, and can in fact be pretty, in-shape folk, like those pictures above. But more importantly, they offer a valid solution to kids whose brains have been sucked out by Nintendo, and who otherwise would not be getting any exercise.

Hell, that’s honestly one of the major selling points by the big N, and a primary reason why parents have embraced the Wii in the first place, which going by sales figures alone, has clearly worked.

But according to research detailed by Reuters, kids wore accelerometers attached to their belts for 13 weeks and were split into two groups: those who played “active” games, like Wii Sports, requiring players to get up off the couch and shake their bodies, and “inactive” games, like Super Mario Galaxy, where players could just sit and push buttons like normal fare.

The end result? Kids with the active games didn’t get anymore exercise than those in the other group. According to Tom Baranowski, one of the researchers at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas: “We expected that playing the video games would in fact lead to a substantial increase in physical activity in the children… Frankly we were shocked by the complete lack of difference.”

The conclusion was that physical games can help a bit, but not a whole lot. Hey, anything helps, but getting pushed around on the school soccer field is ultimately unavoidable I’m afraid. BTW, once NYU is done with their research, to determine if Call of Duty makes a player unstoppable, one-man army after-all, I’ll post that as well.

It’s for Kiki Trick and it’s kinda far out, man.

The following is from the makers of the WarioWare series. That’s pretty much all that’s known right now. But in terms of games in which it’s all about totally random, batsh*t insane things happening every three seconds, it would seem that those responsible have truly outdone themselves…

It’s coming out for the Wii in Japan in a bit, and you can bet about $50,000 in cold hard case that it will NEVER see the light of day in the United States. Sucks, but that’s just how it is. Such niche games have limited marketability to begin with, and given how tricky (and costly) it is to translate games from Japan are in general, especially when there’s lots of cultural in-jokes like Kiki Trick will no doubt be chock full of, this title looks like a logistical nightmare on so many levels.

At the very least, their previous title, Rhythm Heaven Fever, is still slated for release in North America, in a few weeks. But those interested in another “lol Japan” type title, that’s also a mini game fest, look no further than Work Time Fun (otherwise know as WTF, get it?) for the PSP. All one needs to know is how the background of the options screen is a

With Mega 64, it’s cool, since they did it for the money. But the President of the United States? I somewhat expect better taste in gaming from our Commander in Chief.

First, there’s this: the latest “legit” gaming ad from those wacky guys from SoCal…

Can’t say it’s my most favorite thing from the guys, but not everything’s going to be a home run. At the very least, it’s nice to know that they got a decent paycheck this holiday season, and hopefully they all got free copies of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations as bonuses as well.

Meanwhile, across the country, President Obama decided to get a game for his daughters at a Best Buy…

I agree with Joystiq: why in the hell is the leader of this United States supporting a foreign publisher, that being Ubisoft, while an American one, that being Harmonix, makes a far superior dancing game, that being Dance Central?

It would appear that Obama’s household lacks a 360 and Kinect, but surely the President can afford one. Also, the footage above proves how clueless the average Best Buy employee is, for claiming that Just Dance 3 is the hot Wii game at the moment, and totally forgetting to mention Skyward Sword.

Oh well, guess I’m voting for the other guy next year.

As noted yesterday, Wal-Mart is the big box, evil empire that not only threatens small business owners, but they impose their moral dogma upon content providers, including game makers. But not all the time, and man, some of their deals cannot be beat!

They just posted their circular for deals going down in two weeks, which may be just the ticket to get some fresh air that Thanksgiving morning, especially if either football or dealing with in-laws is not your deal…

For a closer look, as well as to see what else is on sale, simply head here. Highlights include:

- Wii for not just $100, but in blue! As Siliconera points out, what was previously thought to be a European exclusive is finally making an appearance in America, perhaps as a Wal-Mart exlusive? Note that this is one of the aforementioned modified versions of the console that axes GameCube support.

- One can snag either the Kinect for just $100, which is fifty bucks less than normal, or the Kinect/360 bundle for $200, which is a hundred bucks less than normal.

- I can’t tell how big the hard drive is, but even if it’s just 160GB, the asking price of $200 for a PlayStation 3 is still fifty bucks cheaper than normal for such a configuration.

- As far as games go, you simply can’t go wrong with $10 for Yakuza 4. Like seriously, deal of the century. And there’s plenty of great $15 games as well, but $28 for Gears of War 3, Forza 4, Battlefield 3, and Arkham City? Hot damn!

As psyched as I still am for the long-awaited American edition of the rhythm action title for the Wii (the DS version is still one of my faves), I’m a tad bit bummed out by the improvements by some stranger on the internet and how the original now pales in comparison.

Basically, someone with lots of time and editing skills at their disposal decided to insert a male stripper, or so the theory goes, into the pro-wrestling interview mini-game. Relax, there’s no nudity involved, and let’s be honest, both the world of strippin’ and wrasslin’ shares much with each other (as fans of the latter likes to conveniently forget)…

Gotta love the look of the girl’s expression; she’s clearly in love. Anyhow, to see what the scene originally game looks like, Destructoid has a side-by-side comparison…

Not surprisingly, it being Halloween and all, Capcom unveiled some new Resident Evil related info yesterday. And here’s the rundown.

First a brand new trailer for Resident Evil: Revelations, which not only shows off more of the story, but a few of the new gameplay elements. Like a very Metroid Prime-esque scanning feature, touch screen based puzzle unlocking, gyro functionality, and Raid Mode, which is the game’s take on multplayer action…

And here’s some more footage from the later. The stages and enemies are based upon the single player, story mode, but one can assume that things have been tweaked to accommodate (and emphasize the need for) two players playing alongside each other. The emphasis is also stat building and upgrading your character, though it remains to be seen if those attributes will carried over to the main game (my best guess is no). Works in both local WiFi and online…

Next is another brand new look at Operation Raccoon City…

Capcom Unity also has a first look at the game’s cover, plus a rundown of all the pre-order bonuses that comes with the game, depending on which retailer you go with. Or, you can just be Capcom’s little bitch completely and just spring for the special edition, which includes everything. Though it’s only an extra $10, which is actually pretty cheap as far as special editions go, mostly since it doesn’t include some big goofy state or an art book.

And finally, a new game has been announced! Well, sorta…

Resident Evil Chronicles HD Selection is basically Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles for the Wii, but given a PS3 facelift, and playable via the Move. Sorta like the just released House of the Dead Overkill: Extended Cut from Sega. And since that one turned out not so bad, this one could as well.

We normally don’t dwell on the boring stuff around here, like financial analysis, but it’s perhaps worth going over Nintendo’s earning loss. Mostly because it’s huge. And I mean REALLY huge.

As Joystiq and others have reported, while back, Nintendo told it’s stock owners to brace for impact. But the end result is far worse than even they expected.

Since March, they have lost a whopping 70.2 billion yen, twice as much as the 35 billion yet. 70.2 billion yen equals to 926 million btw. That’s a whole lot of scratch. Most of the dip in profits stems from, not surprisingly, the American market, which saw a dip of 53.8%.

Case in point: the Wii sold well enough, but hardly anyone is buying games. Perhaps their stance of not releasing games, that a good number of folks would totally buy, are finally biting them in the ass?

Nintendo is hard at work on the Wii U, so things always get a bit lean during that awkward in-between phase, with all money and effort is being spent on the next platform. So it’s important to live off the fat of the current console, but how’s that possible when Nintendo hasn’t done jack with the plain old Wii?

Never-mind JRPGs, when was the last time something came out for the Virtual Console? People who will inevitably point their fingers towards Apple will only be party correct; Nintendo has been, for all intents and purposes, lazy as hell and is basically sowing what they reap.

Hence why Nintendo is having it’s first loss in over 30 years. But hey, nothing lasts forever, right?

In far less exciting news, but something that’s important nonetheless, is how Sony has just bought out its partner with whom they make cell phones with. Basically, Sony Ericsson will be no more come January 2012.

So what does this mean? Hard to say, but there have been rumblings that Sony really wants to take their portable PlayStation brand to the next level. The Xperia Play has done okay, but there are a number of issues that might benefit from Sony starting from scratch and having a far more unified, focused effort as it pertains to a PSPhone.

Nintendo is at a very vulnerable position, and this might be the time for Sony to shine with the Vita, which looks far more attractive than it did just a few months ago. But them changing things up on the phone side might be a sign of a more concerted effort against Apple, and… good luck with that.

BTW, remember the Play’s spokeswoman? Well there’s a contest going on, involving Kristen Schaal and the recently released Minecraft for Android devices…

Nintendo of Japan just had a press conference that was chock full of announcements and the like. Some of it applies to us Americans, some of it doesn’t. The following is a list of what actually matter to us in the 50 States.

Helping things out is this video featuring Nintendo of America’s President, Reggie Fils-Aime, who goes over each point…

… But for those who don’t have the time or interest to watch the whole thing, here’s the basics:

- Hulu Plus is finally coming to Wii and the 3DS. Yay. So now you can spend $8 on content that will make you happy that you don’t blow ten times that much for basic cable, yet make you wonder why you still have to deal with commercials.

- There’s another system updated headed towards 3DS owners that will allow them the chance to record 3D video. That’s kid of neat! Up to ten minutes can be filmed, and you’ll even get to shoot stuff via stop motion. No word yet on how these will be shared, if at all. Nintendo being a family friendly company means YouTube uploading is perhaps not an option, sorry.

- Dreamworks Animation offerings on the system is somewhat old news, but you can add an exclusive to their catalog: Thriller, redone via the cast of Shriek. Note: I think Shriek is pretty retarded, and this from a grown man who has no problems professing his love for cartoons.

- If it wasn’t clear by now, the message is how Nintendo is purely catering towards kids and teens. Some 3D music video for some group called Foster The People was also teased. Never heard of these geeks. Next.

- At long last, some games were touched upon. But the wave of upcoming eShop titles that Nintendo has in store are total snore-fests. Swapnote is maybe the most interesting of the bunch, in which you can create notes that feature drawings and pictures taken with the 3DS, which can be passed along via Street Pass. Actually, does that sound very interesting? Yeah, not really. I know.

- Finally we have actual games. But just three, yet they’re the big three: Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario Kart 7, and Skyward Sword.

… Honestly, that last point best illustrates Nintendo more than anything else. If not for their ability to make truly amazing games, the company would be so hosed right now. Despite the fact that the 3DS is looking and more like a total dud, I still sorta want one, if only for Land and Kart. And the reason why everyone still has their Wii is because of the latest Zelda.

I’m not one of those folks who wishes Nintendo would drop hardware, but I it would be nice if they’d just concentrate on making games and stop everything else. But that’s where the money is at… not my money… but someone has to cater to the lucrative kids and teen market, which Sony and MS is not focusing on (they’re too busy pleasing adults).

My biggest gripe, from my POV, is how Nintendo simply isn’t doing the best job possible when it comes to catering towards kids. Things can just be done so much… I dunoo… better? Then again, maybe they just have more patience/don’t realize how chintzy and slapped together some of their offerings are. Instead of being like Apple and doing one thing very well, repeatedly, Nintendo now feels like Google, in the sense that they’re doing tons of the things, and everything is just sorta “okay.”

If Nintendo wants to really succeed, they just need to buckle down and make games. LOTS of games. Good ones, obviously. That’s what will get adults interested, and I’m pretty certain kids would appreciated as well. And also listen to what people want. Their walking to the beat of their own drum has become tiresome. Worked back in the day when no one was providing alternatives. Well, it ain’t the 80s anymore, that’s for damn sure.

At least Tiny Cartridge’s summation of the Japanese press conference hold some hope. Sone neat games were highlighted… which hopefully will make it out here… and more importantly, you’ll soon be able to transfer content from one 3DS to another. About damn time. So it would seem Nintendo is finally listening.

You’ve no doubt seen Ghost Squad at one point or another; the light gun game is a staple at Dave & Busters across the country. Well, it’s apparently a big hit in the Thailand. At least with this guy. I don’t even want to know how much money was spent on the arcade version, to learn every bit of minutia related to the game…

BTW, before anyone says that he probably got plenty of practice via the home version of the game, I say bullsh*t. Sorry, but a guy like, he’s too hardcore for that, to let alone own a Wii (not that I agree, but that’s just how some folks are).

For one thing, Sony’s definition of “backwards compatibility” for the PlayStation Vita is yet another shameless money grab.

When the Vita was first revealed, Sony made sure to emphasize its ability to run all original PSP software. When led everyone to wonder how in the hell that would work, given how the new system would have no UMD drive. Numerous theories began to circulate, and none of them made any sense.

My favorite involved people actually mailing Sony their physical game discs to them, to be exchanged for digital versions. I can only imagine the folks that Sony would hire for such a job. That seriously makes no sense on like 58 different levels.

Anyhow, according to a report by Siliconera, the grand plan has finally come to light. And it’s… repurchasing all your old games, but at special price. lulz.

While some might appreciate the option, to many, it will most certainly feel like yet another lame ploy by Sony to make extra money from its users, but also make it look like they’re doing you a big favor in the process.

One also can’t help of how Sony botched things up on the PS3. The first run of their consoles was able to play both PSone and PS2 games with total ease, thanks to onboard hardware. Then said hardware was removed, in order to save costs… sure, whatever… and was replaced by software emulation. Okay.

But then that got removed for absolutely no reason. Why? None of given, but many theorize it’s because Sony wanted to make more money, selling folks games, perhaps ones they already own, all over again. Which appears to be the deal here, though in their defense, that Vita simply cannot accept disc media.

It’s basically the same defense Nintendo has been able to use, as it pertains to them constantly rehashing older titles on whatever new platform. Take the Wii for example; I’m actually thankful for the chance to re-buy certain old games, since it clearly doesn’t have a NES, SNES, or Genesis slot.

But I do have a bunch of old GameCube games, and am also thankful that my little discs are accepted in the bigger disc drive of the system. It’s a definite bonus, though future Wii owners aren’t as lucky. Because just announced is a brand new version of the console that completely drops GC support (see above).

What? Why? Again, it’s to save money. Honestly, there aren’t a TON of Cube exclusive games that future Wii owners will be missing out on, though the ability to play Smash Bros with a real controller? Now that totally bites.

Though ultimately, it’s just paving the way for old Cube games being made available for the Wii U as downloads. And one has to wonder if the Virtual Console on that end will mirror its predecessor. As in, it totally sucks. I’m still waiting for Starfox on the SNES, dammit.

There’s also the concern about all the downloaded content being cross compatible with upcoming consoles. I spent a LOT of money on assorted XBLA arcade games, and it would be nice to know that I’ll be able to migrate them onto the Xbox 720. But that’s a topic for another time…

But even in America, I’m confident these girls in bikinis and schoolgirl outfits will help you figured out what game you’ll want next. Maybe.

First off, via Desrtructoid: Dead Rising 2: Off The Record is coming out soon, and to help expound upon the game’s virtues, Capcom decided to film a pair of women playing the game while wearing close to nothing.

Since I don’t have an Asian fetish, the following does nothing for me, since I’m part Korean and all, but I know plenty of you round-eyers will get off on all their silly screaming…

… I guess it would be far more informative and entertaining if I knew what she was saying, but at least the close up on the boobs are appreciated. Anyhow, here’s another, but with a key difference: the girls sitting on one of those work out balls…

… Trust me, if they resembled Emma Watson or the like, I wouldn’t be hatin’. Next, we have an ad for Just Dance Wii, courtesy of Kotaku, featuring AKB48, which is a J-pop “idol” group that has 60 different members. Only a few of the “teams” are featured in the following…

And finally, here’s just a random clip reel of all the booth babes from Tokyo Game Show, via GoNintendo. Instead of screaming or dancing, most are just standing their and waving their hands, like there’s someone off camera with a loaded shotgun pointed right at their face. But that’s how booth babes on that end are supposed to act, I suppose (and it’s somewhat better than the porn star-ish types you generally find at American trade shows)…

Recently a video featuring Jerry Rice & Nitus’ Dog Football began making the rounds, and I had assumed that, at long last, the game is finally getting close! Hence the newfound footage. Well, turns out, I was half correct.

See, turns out, the following footage has been around for ages. Since January to be exact, which by internet standards is a lifetime. Anyway, here’s the clip, which makes absolutely no sense…

Again, it and the associated YouTube page has been with us this entire time and none of us knew about it. Till now, since the game is indeed coming soon, hence the need to advertise. Here’s another sorta old clip, this time actually featuring Jerry, as well as some actual gameplay…

Time for one last clip, which is actually recent. It’s mostly a family friendly fluff piece, not some hardcore serious behind the scenes look (as if that’s possible). Basically, no twenty-minute tirade by Rice about Michael Vick…

All I want to know is what the deal is with the very end of that last clip; I’m sure it’s an inside joke, but still…

… BTW, according to Kotaku, the game is coming out on the 16th. BTW, is it bad to say that, as someone who knows virtually nothing about football, that from this point forward, Jerry Rice will always be known to me as the guy with that dog football game?

For those who have yet to partake in one of the Wii’s best light gun experiences (one in which killing zombies is involved, yet does NOT have Resident Evil in the title), the following will either tell you everything you need to know and save you the time or have you rushing to Gamestop.

My favorite part is when they say the f word. Via Reddit and NSWF audio btw…

Again, it’s actually pretty decent! Will admit, was initially non-plussed by the shameless attempt at riding the Grindhouse wave, but at its core is a decent game, plus I actually did find the thing funny at times (like the haunted ride part, which you see for five seconds in the clip).

Though I suppose it’s worth mentioning how those interested in picking up a copy might want to hold off, provided they have a PS3 and the PS Move; announced at E3 was the port, subtitled Extended Cut, and here’s the latest trailer that debuted at last weekend’s San Diego Comic Con…
