Personal story

After tailgating that morning, many of my roommates and I came back to our house on River St. to watch the game. There was a large group of us, including friends from back home and a good friend of ours from high school. She was a UM student at the time as was her friend. As the game wound down, tensions were fairly high as we all gathered in front of the television in the living room. As the play happened, time literally stood still. Later on, one of my roomates said that he actually never saw Duckett catch the ball because I had stood up in front of him.

The pandemonium that took place after the game was legendary. I ran out of the house barefoot onto River St. and just started screaming. I saw legions of Spartan fans empty out of their apartments and houses into the street. In a matter of minutes there were hundreds of people in the Cedar Village area.

Amidst all the hysteria was our UM friend and her roommate crying in our living room. As much we felt bad for them, as Cartman would say, “they were the tears of unfathomable sadness”
