Personal Story
A couple of my friends went up to a buddies house in Ann Arbor to watch the game. The entire household was MSU fans, or atleast, thats what we thought.
MSU controlled the game early but then Drew Stanton got knocked out with a shoulder injury in the 2nd quarter. Damon Dowdell came in and did an ok job handling the offense until late in the 4th quarter. Down 17 UM staged a miraculous comeback.
It was very lighthearted in the house until Scott muffed the onside kick. After that, everyone was on pins and needles.
When the game went into OT, one of the guys roomates walked in, dressed from head to toe in UM gear. He had left the game early thinking MSU had the game won and was shocked to find the game tied up. Immediately he cheered and you could tell the anger was going to spill over.
One of the housemates parents and their young son were watching the game with us. The father probably had one too many cocktails in him and was mouthing off back and forth with the UM fan.
When State threw the incomplete pass on 4th down in the 3rd OT, the UM fan started to cheer rather loudly. This enraged the father and much to our dismay, he went after the kid and tried to fight him. During the scuffle in which many people tried to intervene, the young son of about 11 tried to hold his dad back and started crying in the process.
It was a shameful display by the father and coupled with the disastrous loss on the field, an embarrassment all-around by Spartan Nation.
It was the worst I had ever felt as a MSU fan.
