Aspiring rapper robs store with BB gun for "street cred"

I find it difficult to relate to this gentleman as, since I grew up in the Bronx and often exchange fist pounds with black people, I’m practically bathing in street cred. But needless to say, being 21 and holding up a convenience store with a BB gun doesn’t scream badass to me.

Authorities say a 21-year-old aspiring rapper robbed a Gainesville convenience store and shot a clerk with a BB gun to gain “street credibility.”

Police say Steven Gilmore Jr. has confessed to the Friday night robbery. He also confessed to a restaurant robbery that occurred last week.

According to the Gainesville police, Gilmore shot the clerk in the temple with a BB gun during the robbery.

Gilmore is being held in the Alachua County jail on robbery and aggravated battery charges. According to the Gainesville Sun, a 16-year-old accomplice was also arrested.

While Google image searching for BB guns, I didn’t realize some of them are so ridiculously gun-looking. They range from sniper rifles to Uzis, making them way more dangerous looking than one might imagine. But at the same time, it’s still fundamentally a little toy when compared to a real gun. You could put the baddest man in the world with a BB gun and someone would see the little orange cap and just laugh in your face. You’d get more street cred by jerking off to The Breakfast Club in a pair of footy pajamas.
