One of the greatest sports broadcasters of all-time and certainly one of Detroit most beloved sports figures Ernie Harwell thanked the fans and the Tigers for all they’ve given him in his life.
At 91 years old, Harwell was recently diagnosed with an inoperable and incurable form of bile duct cancer.
He asked the Tigers if he could thank the fans before the season was over.
Two things of note here…
-Ernie actually had a stuttering problem in his younger years and had to go to speech therapists to remedy it. Incredible when you consider that he rarely stumbled over words in his time as Tigers broadcaster
-To the ahole trying to get Ernie to sign an autograph as he was leaving the field….Get a life old man. God knows you’d probably put it up on ebay anyways
