Irish woman's Facebook photos sabotage political career

Emma Kiernan seems like a perfectly normal young woman with political aspirations. Smart, pretty, and she occasionally likes getting her breasts honked by a friend for a Facebook photo.

A PHOTOGRAPH of a young Newbridge Fine Gael candidate in the forthcoming local elections has caused a bit of a stir in the past 48 hours.

The photograph was taken at the 30th birthday party of a friend of Emma Kiernan, who is seeking a seat on Newbridge Town Council.

The photo is typical of many party pics which are posted on Facebook pages, and wouldn’t have attracted any attention but for the fact that the 27-year-old is running for election.

According to Ms Kiernan, the photograph was posted on a friend’s Facebook page without her knowledge. Facebook allows site users to electronically “tag” their friends in photographs. Photos of Ms Kiernan tagged by her friends are available to view through her own Facebook page, and the candidate would have been able to view the photos herself. Facebook also allows users the option of making their sites private, but Ms Kiernan’s was, at the time of writing,public and available to Facebook users.

“Admittedly it’s not a great photograph,” she said, “and if it did cause offence to anyone, I’d like to apologise.”

I don’t get it. I mean, yes, it’s not the most flattering photo in the world. But it’s not like she’s spread eagle on a bar getting banged by two bouncers and an eel. It’s only the Town Council in Ireland. You’d think a country that’s drunk 97.98% of the time would be more accepting of a girl’s alcohol-related dalliances. Especially when she’s as hot as Emma Kiernan. She could top my poll any day.

I used to think Europe was way more free with these sort of things, but maybe I was wrong. Like we as Americans turned a blind eye to when that video of Hillary Clinton performing at a donkey show during her days at Yale Law, but Ireland can’t take a little gentle groping? I hope they never see Condoleeza Rice’s German Scheisse video. Lots of bran was required to film that one.
