Perhaps this is a sign your love isn't meant to be

Love is a tricky thing. You want it to work always, so you’ll overlook some things. But your girl biting the court-appointed mediator after she threatened to kill you might be a sign to get back into that dating pool.

A Hampton woman accused of biting a court mediator after a session of marital mediation was court-ordered to undergo an evaluation before criminal charges proceed against her.

Elizabeth Loveday, 38, of 27 Perkins Ave., appeared in Portsmouth District Court Tuesday to face two counts of simple assault, a criminal threatening charge and a count of violating a protective order. Police allege that following the mediation session in the city courthouse Loveday threatened to kill her estranged mate, then hit and bit the mediator.

As Loveday sat at a defendant’s table July 14, her attorney and a city prosecutor met at the judge’s bench for an extended conference that could not be heard in the courtroom. Following that conference, Judge Sawako Gardner told Loveday her case will be continued until an assessment of her is complete.

Police allege Loveday was exiting a courthouse meeting room when she shouted to her ex, “I will kill you.” Shortly after, in a courthouse hallway, she is alleged to have swung at, struck, then bit the mediator on her forearm.

The woman may very well be crazy, but how do we know that she’s not making progress? Perhaps the mediator talked her down to a forearm bite when the wife wanted to bite her face. Incremental progress, sure, but progress nonetheless.

Personally, I’d project about 95% of women to be CAPABLE of such craziness. Not that they’d do it, since most women are too well-grounded to fly off the handle like this and I’m sure that Loveday isn’t the classiest gal around, but I think that a lot of women could do this if put in a similar spot. If you’ve ever seen that look in your girlfriend’s eyes when you go just a bit over the line (you know what I mean, the one that says “You had better be wearing a steel codpiece to bed tonight”), then you’ll know there’s no terror quite like that of a woman scorned. Particularly a woman with access to sharp objects. Scorn alone isn’t going to slice off my genitals.
