The US's first face transplant…uh…happened

This is a somewhat disturbing photo but you’re already at the post so this warning probably won’t help. Anywho…take a look at the first US face transplant done to 46 year-old Connie Culp, shot in the face by her husband in 2004.

This is kind of a sad story…Culp had to get the transplant and go through all that but meanwhile her husband only got seven years in jail. That’s all kinds of awful and just a fed up situation for Ms. Culp.

HOWEVER, is this really the best we have for facial reconstruction? She looks like she has a Lego head. And for a woman that once looked like this (i.e. not bad at all), that’s bordering on tragic. One would think that we would have perfected this science after the smash hit film Face Off. But science rarely heeds the lessons of Nicolas Cage movies as much as they should.
