Is Sony finally putting together their answer to ‘Smash Bros’?

The long rumored project is apparently happening, for real, or so says some guy on Twitter. And we all know how reliable such a source can be.

Sony’s version of Super Smash Bros has been rumored for years now. Though there’s never been any real shred of evidence connecting such speculation with Sony; I’m pretty certain it began as some fantasy started on some gaming message board and people began to believe it to be possibly true. Which might still be the case in the following… or maybe not?

The big news over the weekend is how someone connected with the project decided to spill some beans. Naturally, the account from which the info was contained has mysteriously vanished, along with the pics he posted, but thankfully Gaming Everything has a nice account of everything.

Actually, all of their info comes from another source, from some site run by some dude who likes to pretend that he’s Ryu from Street Fighter and James Bond. lol, video game journalism. Anyhow, first we have those aforementioned images, three in total. One’s fairly exciting, the others are boring. Let’s start with the later first, including a “screenshot” that honestly doesn’t contain any useful info…

Next is another behind the scenes pic, in which we discover the game is being put together in someone’s garage, or so it seems…

Finally we have something that one can actually chew on. A look at once of the participants…

Mind you, anyone student studying 3D could have whipped that render together. But there’s a few additional pics, from the studio that’s supposedly putting together. They’re courtesy of Chris Molina, a senior level designer from SuperBot, who is a legit developer for Sony Computer Entertainment, and the additional shots of just the office and employees playtesting an unseen game does lend some credibility to the story. Hmmm.

Anyhow, there’s actually a decent amount of info to digest as well. First off, it’s apparently being called Title Fight. It will play a lot like Smash Brothers, with a similar sounding control scheme. Looks-wise though, everyone will retain the art style from the game that they originate from, which is a bit different from Nintendo’s offering, which tries to somewhat unify everyone so they appear to be from the same universe. As for who’s in the game, here’s the cast mentioned thus far…

- Nathan Drake, from Uncharted, a total no-brainer.
- Kratos, from God of War. Makes total sense.
- Colonel Mael Radec, from Killzone.
- Sly Cooper, who stars in the series that bears his name.
- Sweet Tooth, from Twisted Metal, as seen above.
- The Fat Princess, from the game Fat Princess. Interesting.
- Parappa The Rapper? Now we’re talking!

There’s also apparently stages that take place in Hot Shots Golf, Jak and Daxter, plus LittleBigPlanet. Sounds great doesn’t it? Almost to good to be true, huh? Yup. Oh, and it’s also been inferred that James Bond will be in the game, which is the part where I go “okay, now you went too far”.

BTW, here are some other folks that I believe should be represented, if such a game exists…

- Ratchet & Clank, naturally.
- A Chimeran, from Resistance.
- A Sackboy, from LittleBigPlanet.
- Ico, from Ico.
- A flower, from Flower.
- That wooden drawing model from Echochrome.
- One of the vehicles from Wipeout. Stupid idea? Sega did the same thing in Fighters Megamix to great effect…

Bonus video time! Of the aforementioned guy whose been providing news on Title Fight this entire time and only now have folks noticed. Like I said, the guy likes to pretend to be a Street Fighter…
