Siri can now pour you a beer with Beeri

Until today I thought that the only people who had a use, other than asking it stupid questions, for iPhone 4S’ Siri either spent a lot of time driving or wanted to pretend they had a girlfriend. I’m not too big of a man to admit when I am wrong though, and that’s currently the case.

Beeri 167x214 Siri can now pour you a beer with BeeriPeople come up with all sorts of ways to save themselves the trouble of getting another beer. There are beer fetching robots, can catapults, and even the lucky few who trained their dog to open the fridge. Those are probably all better options than Beeri, but that doesn’t mean this ingenius beer pouring technique doesn’t deserve a mention.

Siri texts “pour me a beer” to Beeri’s Twitter account while Beeri’s onboard Arduino Uno w/WiFi shield polls the Twitter API for any new “pour” commands. Once Beeri sees the tweet, it pours beers for all who are thirsty. Without a doubt, beer is a tool for the creative class.

A bartender like that would make Tim “The Toolman” Taylor proud, and much like all of his inventions, the flaws in this are obvious. You only get about half of the beer, though I’m sure that could be easily improved. While the idea came about as an interesting way to use Siri, she clearly is an unnecessary step. You could just go directly to twitter, or simply use the car’s remote control. And the biggest set back is the one beer capacity. That said, it’s still a pretty cool idea and would make funneling a beer a whole lot more interesting. Plus I could probably watch a car ram into a wall for at least 6 or 7 minutes straight before getting bored.
