VIDEO: 2 different takes on Portal, one high-fi, the other not so much

I’ve always been a fan of fan films, especially as they pertain to video games, mostly since geeks with cameras in their backyards often blow away whatever Hollywood comes up with. I think most can agree that David O. Russell’s recent bowing out of the Uncharted film production can be considered a bullet dodged (especially since the dude wanted to turn Nathan Drake into Tony Soprano… seriously).

Anyhow, check out the following, which follows Chell after she’s managed to escape the confines of the test chamber…

Not half-bad, mostly cute, but still. Though that back-scratching gag is kinda genius, certainly anything better than some Hollywood hack could sh*t out. But that’s with a fancy camera, excellent props (forget the Portal gun, I just want to know how they got a hold of an old Betamax deck), and competency of high-end software. But even all that’s not necessary; the same can be achieved on some anime convention stage…

I shudder to think what a real Portal movie would be like. Would no doubt involve Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson somehow.
