We’ve already witnessed folks make some pretty big things in the indie sandbox sensation, Minecraft. But if you thought the Enterprise was impressive, you truly have seen nothing yet.
The following is an almost forty five minute long tour of a work in progress attempt at recreating the lands found in Lord of the Rings (mostly the books). The level of authenticity… though mostly the sheer scale of it all… is truly jaw-dropping…
I know an almost hour long vid seems a lot to ask, but trust me, it’s worth soaking it all in (though certainly helping is the host, who understandably is gob-smack by what he’s hearing and seeing). While editing tools certainly played a part, a good deal of everything was created with hands alone.
And while making just one home is time consuming enough, image everything that one sees when walking from one destination in Middle Earth to another, which end to end takes 12 hours. Oh, and lots of stuff have been built at 1:1 scale. Naturally.
For those who have not so much time on their hands, fast-forward to the 29:00, 33:00, and especially 40:00 marks for some mind-blowing architecture. BTW, this is all for some fan-made Lord of the Rings MMO. Which basically looks far more fun and exciting than any of the official releases that have been produced, and might possibly be ever produced. I’m hardly a LoTR nerd, but I’m now more than willing to sign up to be one.
