VIDEO: Blizzard not too upset with Cannibal Corpse’s singer’s anti-gay slurs at BlizzCon

We’ve seen PR screw ups before, but this has to take the cake.

Whereas Activision got Kanye West for their Call of Duty shindig, Blizzard got Level 90 Epic Tauren Chieftain to perform on the final night of BlizzCon, a band comprised of Blizzard employees.

But there was an addition to their line-up that evening: George ‘Corpseater’ Fisher, lead singer of Cannibal Corpse. Who apparently loves World of Warcraft, so Blizzard decided to touch upon that fact by playing an old interview with the guy before he hit the stage. Great idea, right?

Problem is, it was filled with a bunch of homophobic sentiments and other not so nice things, that one would expect from the mouth of some dipsh*t 13 year old on Xbox Live, and not someone at a gathering to celebrate the relatively benign WoW.

So here’s the deal: I used to be a HUGE fan of the band, back in the day. I don’t follow death metal as much anymore, but back when I did, I used to worship them. Well, their music at least. And I’d like to think that, when all is said and done, Fisher is not really a homophobe.

In the same way that I’d like think that some of the rappers whom I also enjoy aren’t the same way, at least when they say similar things (or disparaging comments about women in general). Which is like putting on a tin foil hat of sorts, I full realize.

That being said, there’s zero excuse to say such things, especially stating that everyone in a certain sect in the game, which in this case is the Alliance, is first gay and then should be put to death. Talked about retarded.

But hey, Blizzard was again stupid enough to play the clip in the first place. Thus far, they seem to be laughing, which is stupid PR move #2. It’s amazing how some folks can’t be bothered to just say “we totally screwed up and are sorry.”
